Saunders Field

On May 5, 1864, During the battle of the Wilderness, Brig. Gen. Charles Griffin's division of the Union Fifth Corps will clash here with Maj. Gen. Edward Johnson's division of Gen. Robert E. Lee's Confederate 2nd Corps. Saunders Field is maintained by the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park in Fredericksburg, Virginia

140th New York Monument

This painting shows the 140th & 146th New York in Saunders field.  The monument in the rear is for the 140th.

Orange Turnpike

The paved road is the eastbound lane of State Rt. 3. The gravel road is the old Orange Turnpike used by Maj. General Gouverner Warren's 5th corps. To inter the Wilderness Battlefield May 5.

This is the site of the Wilderness Tavern dependency. Confederate General Thomas Jackson had his arm amputated nearby during the Battle of Chancellorsville May 2, 1863.

Ellwood

This is Ellwood it will serve as Union 5th Corps headquarters.
