 This is Son Goku. The main character all throughout Dragon Ball Z. He is from the Planet Vegeta, where there lives a race of warriors called Saiya-jins (pronounced SAY-ANS). He is the first Saiya-jin in over 3 millenia to reach the level of Super Saiya-jin..the ultimate fighter. |
 This is the son of Goku. Gohan is actually half Saiya-jin and half human. His human emotions give him extraordinary power for his young age. |
 This is the prince of all Saiya-jins. He is ruthless in battle but hides his anger surrounding his upbringing behind a fearsome exterior. He is DBZ's first real bad-guy but goes between good and bad throughout the series. |
 Piccolo is actually the "offspring" of another Piccolo that was pure evil. Piccolo used to be merged with Kami ("god") who was from the planet Namek. While most Namekians are kindly, Piccolo loves to fight. He does develop a sort of soft spot for Gohan, whom he trains in the art of fighting. |
 She may not seem to important at first, but Bulma invariably has been a key figure in most Dragon Ball plots. She is the one who goes search for the dragon balls in the original series. There is much more in the biography of Bulma on the "Ultimate DBZ Info Site" which is the first DBZ link on top of the page. But for now, know that she later becomes the wife of Vegeta and bears him a son (Trunks) and a daughter (Bra). She is also a mechanical genius like her father, Dr. Briefs, who is the head of the Capsule Corporation. |
 This here is Krillin, Goku's best friend. Krillin originally was a monk in the Orinji ("Many Tree") temple..which is why he has those six dots on his forehead. He then trained under Master Roshi alongside Goku for many years. From the fight with the Saiya-jins on, he never really was a decisive factor. He just kind of helped out. But he does start up an interesting relationship with No. 18 and produces a daughter Maron (like his first girlfriend, but with one "r"). |
 Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma. He is born shortly before Androids #19 and #20 appear. His role in the DBZ timeline is complicated to say the least. He first appears to us as a 17 year old traveler from the future who comes back to meet Son Goku and give him medicine to cure heart problem he will have later. Besides doing this favor and killing Freeza and King Cold, he also warns of the coming threat of the androids (he is referring to 17 and 18). When Cell is awakened it appears as though Cell killed future trunks and came back in time. This clues Trunks that the timelines aren't the same (his and the present one). Other things for Trunks include him turning Super Saiya-jin at a very early age (5 years?), and fusing with Goku/ChiChi's second son Goten to form Gotenks. |
