Presumably, Adam Guiteau was with the church from as far back as when he was a young man and studied under Cardinal Alba.
Adam was aware of the slayer and he was to take over fellow priest Father Giovanni when he retired, but all came to fast when Giovanni lost his life in the Sun God massacre.
Although the Master Slayer Jack Crow treated him like dirt, he managed to remain very loyal to him.
Adam finally managed to prove his worth when he and Tony Montoya saved Jack from being tourched by Valek and the other vampires during a ritual. He also proved that he could handle a gun when he shot the traitorous Cardinal Alba who had struck a deal with Valek so he could become a nosferatu.
Personality:
Father Adam's patience and sympathy proved that he was more than a man who worked in a rual New Mexican church. Very rarely did he become angry or malevolent, but when he found out that the Cardinal was not the man he was, he felt betrayed and finally let his vengence get the best of him.
