Baring it All (part 38)
Released
Granny and I had been visiting with Travis for about an hour. Danesha was there too and the four of us were enjoying our conversation.
Earlier I had taken a quiet moment alone with Travis. I had told him how much I love him and that no matter what I was gonna be by his side. I also told him I didn't believe he was a killer. He'd hugged and kissed me right there in front of Granny and Danesha.
Then he told us why he was there, and the detectives' plan. I promised to be there first thing in the morning to pick him up.
There was knock at the door and Detective Sellers walked in. He looked tired and stressed.
"Rev. Leonard, you are free to go. There's been a major break in the case." He said.
"That quickly?" Travis said. "Do you know who killed Lisa."
"We think so." The detective answered solemnly
He looked at all of us strangely. He sighed deeply before continuing.
" I think maybe you ladies should sit down." He said.
Detective Sellers quietly told us of the events of the evening. Danesha and I both gasped loudly as we learned of Monica's death. Granny wiped away a tear and Travis looked stunned.
The Detective told us they believed Claude had killed Lisa and stolen her wedding rings. He told us that Monica had pawned them at a local shop. They didn't have a motive for him killing either of the women but he was seen running from Monica's building moments before her body was discovered.
"As soon as we arrest Mr. Rivers, we should have the ends tied together." He said.
The four of us quietly walked out to our cars.
"Danesha! Leave your car here. Come with us." Travis said suddenly.
"Why? She asked."
"Call Sheila. Have her meet us at my house. I want all of you staying with me until this person is caught. It's not safe for any of you ladies to be alone."
Danesha opened her mouth to protest.
"Just do it girl!" Granny said as she got into the back seat of my Honda. I handed Travis my car keys and got in.
Travis looked at Danesha.
"Baby D, please." He said.
Danesha locked her car and got in with us.
"May I use your cell Marissa?" she asked.
