Baring it All (part 28) The Arrest I awoke to the sound of someone ringing Travis' doorbell over and over. I looked over at the clock that read 6:30am. I wondered who it could be. Travis put on his robe and went to answer the door. I crept to the bedroom door to listen. When Travis opened the door, Detective Sellers was standing there with 3 uniformed cops. "May I help you?" he said Silently I stood in the doorway as the officer said. "Rev Leonard you are under arrest for the murder of your wife." "What are you talking about?" Travis said. "I didn't kill anybody!" The officer continued speaking ignoring Travis' denial. "Considering your standing in the community Rev. Leonard, we are going to make this easy on you. Please get dressed." "I just told you, I didn't kill anybody!" Travis raised his voice. The detective looked at the 3 uniformed officers before continuing. "Mr. Leonard, we found your cell phone in your wife's apartment. You told us you didn't know she still lived there but your fingerprints are all over her living room. We also have statements from her neighbors who heard you 2 arguing shortly before Mrs. Leonard was murdered. The detective paused. "Rev. Leonard, please don't make a scene. We'll wait right here while you get dressed." he finished. I slumped against the bedroom wall, not believing what I was hearing. My mind could not wrap itself around the fact that Travis had killed Lisa. I jumped when Travis walked into the bedroom and backed away to the other side of the room. He went into the drawer and took out a pair of jeans and a Tshirt. He didn't speak until he was completely dressed. "Marissa, you have to believe that I didn't do this. Please tell me you understand that." He said. He stepped towards me and I backed up further. "No Travis. Don't come any closer," I said holding up my hands. He dropped his head, and walked towards the door. "Please call my sister. Lock up when you leave." He said quietly He walked out into the living room. I heard the officers read him his rights then I heard the door close. I looked out the window and for the 2nd time in a week I watched the man I loved being taken away in a police car. I left a message on Danesha's answering machine and went home. I turned off the ringer on my phone, closed the blinds and crawled into my bed. I didn't want to see or talk to anybody. My heart was slowly breaking into tiny little pieces. If this was what love felt like I never wanted to feel it again. I cried and cried until I drifted into a fitful sleep.
