VHSL-helper's 2015 1A/2A Spring Jubilee info page

Having went to RU "back in the day", I thought having the word of a "local" on directions, locations and grub might be of some help.

I won't be updating this page much since it's for ppl. GOING TO the games.
If you want live updates, here's some Twitter links ...
Roanoke Times , Wise's Coalfield Progress , Bristol's Tim Hayes & Jim Sacco , Gate City , Lebanon News , Leb. HS , Jason / Honaker ,
Scrimmage Play (C'ville) , WHSV, Harrisonburg , Madison Co. , Strasburg , George Mason ,
RTD , King Wil. SB Northumberland , N'ern Neck News ,

Facebook pages : Parry SB , M. Walker , Rappahannock ,

In 2012, the VHSL switched from updating their bracket pages to posting new ones, so here's links to the pages that don't change :
Baseball , Softball , Soccer along with their Twitter and Facebook pages, which might be quite handy Friday.

Food

Fast food is not a nearby option for the Dedmon Center Complex, so come prepared for concession-stand cuisine. Here's the "big names" around town .... Macado's is located across the tracks from Dedmon, but there's no short-cut to it. It's across from Madison St. (not Adams, as the map shows); BT's is located across from campus at Tyler & Downey, beside the 7-11. Papa John's is about half a mile back up the hill towards I-81 on Tyler (177), Quiznos and Spinnakers (in the Best Western) are on up a piece. Subway & a yogurt place are on Main Street, but have limited parking. The others are on out Main a bit. Domino's is on top of the hill just past downtown along with Taco Inn and Little Ceasar's. Go about another mile and there's an Appleby's on the right (about 5 minutes). At the traffic light, you can go straight to Sonic, Arby's, or El Charro & Sal's Italian (about 8 minutes from Dedmon). Or turn right on 11 towards Pulaski to hit rest. row : McD's, Hank's Drive-In, Bojangles, etc. A new place is Cook Out, which is said to have decent burgers, good shakes & great BBQ. Go on up the hill and there's a Hardee's at the light. Turn right towards Tech for Taco Bell, which is a left at the light for Wal-Mart. There's also a ton of eats around the NRV Mall (about 25 minutes from Dedmon). In Blacksburg, I've gotta mention Log Cabin BBQ in the U. Mall. Right across the Blvd. are Five Guys, Macado's, Subway & Starbucks. If you're there early enough, Carol Lee's Doughnuts is out on N. Main, just past the light near the old HS. Cook Out has opened out on S. Main in the old Hardees, across from Gables, and Awful Arthur’s in Kent Square has closed. Here's a list of places from WSLS.

Weather / other stuff to do

The Weather Channel is calling for a 50% chance of thunderstorms Friday afternoon, so bring some extra cash and check out some movies if you need to kill some time. Here's the local schedules from The Roanoke Times, MovieFone & IMDB. Here's a Roanoke Times page of offers that might be of interest to shoppers. And down Rt. 8 (Exit 114), it's Hot Fun time again in Stuart, where their Beach Music Festival is happenin'.

Traffic info

VDoT is doing bridge work near Pulaski and road work in the Valley View-581 area. Here's VDoT's weekly Travel Alerts page. VDoT has disabled the direct link to their traffic cameras. You can either go to their 511 page and under Map Views, select View a Region (Southwest) and zoom in, or visit Trafficland. Work on Rt. 114 between Radford & the 'burgs has finished.

the games

State semis & finals are $10 (for an all-day pass) and will be played F/S. ALL times are subject to change due to graduations and bad weather (Sunday play IS possible). Who plays who and who's the home team ?? With the new system, the last game the teams played was for the "half-state title" and seeding for the semis. Both teams advanced, with the Regional winners becoming the "home" team in the semis. Overall records are mainly from newspaper articles and may not be exact. * denotes defending state champions ** 2014 runner-up Official updates can be found on the VHSL website - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - BASEBALL - 2A semi-finals, Friday @ Radford U.
