Haysi info for Giles fans

I'll break the trip into 2 parts, since Claypool Hill's about half-way.

To get to Claypool Hill, just follow 460 for about an hour; you're
almost there when the speed limit drops to 45 PAST the rock quarry
and BEFORE the Wal-Mart.

Past Wal-Mart on 460/19, there's a Wendys on the left and a mini-McD's
on the right (in the gas station past the motel).

There's over half-a-dozen ways to get to the field from Claypool Hill -
I'll preview the "best" 3 (the ones whose roads are all striped).

Option 1 is the easiest to follow, but a bit longer & no places to eat.
Option 2 is a good road and a few eats.
Option 3 is the "worst" road of the 3, but more eats.

       OPTION 1 - Rosedale & Honaker

When you go up the hill from McD's to the traffic light, you HAVE to be
in the LEFT lane. This is Rt. 19 to Rosedale.

Go about 20 minutes to the traffic light and turn left onto Rt. 80.

Follow 2-lane Rt. 80 about 30-35 miles (45 minutes) - this includes
a big mountain (Big A Mtn., to be exact - going up isn't bad at all,
but coming down is steeper and has some sharp curves).

Look for Edwards Grocery (a little one-story store) on the left,
then turn left across the bridge to the elem. school & football field.

       OPTIONS 2 & 3 - Richlands

When you go up the hill from McD's to the light, you HAVE to be in
the RIGHT lane to stay on 460 into Richlands. This lane acts like an
exit ramp - no light, but be careful - there's a Waffle & Egg and a
hotel just around the corner on the right, and more traffic from the
other direction coming in on your left.

Go about 6 miles to the light at the Exxon station.

------ see below for Richlands restaurants ------

When you get to the light at the Exxon station (past KFC), you can go
one of two ways...

OPTION 2 - Swords Creek & Honaker (this is the one I'd take)

Turn left at the light onto Rt. 67. Go about a mile and turn left at
THAT light, and follow 67 about 15-20 minutes (you'll pass Honaker H.S.)
to Rt. 80 & turn right (there's an Exxon here with a Pizza Plus inside).

Follow Rt. 80 about 30 miles (45 minutes) to Sandlick - this includes
a big mountain (Big A Mtn., to be exact - going up isn't bad at all,
but coming down is steeper and has some sharp curves).

       OPTION 3 - Vansant & Haysi

Stay on 460 another 20-25 miles to the Vansant traffic light.
You'll pass a Shell Mart w/ a Taco Bell, The Rainbow Restaurant, and
an Exxon station. (If you want to eat at either McDonalds, Subway
or DQ, get in the RIGHT lane and stay on 460 for about a mile.)

To go to Haysi, turn left at the traffic light (it's hidden around a
right-hand curve) and take Rt. 83 about 20 minutes along a twisty 2-lane
road (similar in lots of places to Rt. 460 towards Rich Creek).

When you come to a 25 MPH zone, there's a stop sign ahead. Turn left
onto 83/80. Go about a mile to "downtown Haysi". About 100 yards past
the New Peoples Bank (on your left) is another stop sign (with a Pizza
Plus on the corner). Turn left to stay on 83/80. Keep going straight
on 80 about 2 miles (83 turns off just past the RR tracks). Sandlick
Elem. and the football field will be across the creek on the right.

Only 1 concession stand, but it's on the visitors side.
Bleachers run from about the 25 to the 25.

After the game, I'll have scores of other hs & college games every
half-hour on 105.5 FM - Richlands.

If you can't make it, listen to Richlands game and my half-time
scoreboard via the internet @ wgth.net

                           ------
Richlands restaurants (all between the "exit ramp" and the Exxon)

At the 460 "exit ramp", there's a Waffle & Egg on the right.

At the next light, you can turn left up to the Mall for Italian Village,
which is inside on the back wall past K-Mart, or Subway, which is
   just inside the main entrance.

On down 460 on the right is a Pizza Plus.

Richlands has a number of eats, but is hosting a Div. 3 semi, so don't
be surprised by some crowds.

There's a Long John's, mini-Taco Bell & Pizza Hut a few yards from the
stadium, so I'd pass on these. The others are on 460 Business.

For Hardees - exit is about 4 miles from Claypool Hill. Turn left at
the bottom of ramp for Rt. 67. Go about 1/2 mile. At the light, turn
right onto Bus. 460 (2 lanes, 1 way). Hardees is ahead on the left.

1.3 miles further down the bypass, turn left at the light onto Bus. 460
for McD's, Burger King & Wendy's (all on the left).

At the next light down, turn left, then left again, for Shoney's.

Go another mile down 460 to KFC on the left, but NO U-turn is allowed here.
Turn left down US 67, then make another left through the Exxon parking lot
to get back onto 460.
