                      Oct. 7         Oct. 14       Oct. 21       Oct. 28       Nov. 4       Nov. 11       playoffs

NOTES :

8/15 : An updated VHSL master schedule has been released that includes the
schedules of the out-of-state opponents - therefore, a number of new
discrepancies have appeared and are in the process of being corrected.

Grundy - Haysi game is not listed, but have been told it will be on 11/11

Games with ??? are NOT confirmed by the schedules of both schools.
These schedules are as accurate as I can get them right now, but some
questions STILL exist that may take a while to iron out (like why are a
bunch of WV schools playing Gauley Bridge, which was supposed to have
closed this past Summer?). These probably won't be fixed until about
the first of September.

I start with Region IV, then D, then III, then C.
So, if a Region C school plays a Region IV school (like Battle vs. Abingdon),
it will ONLY be listed in the Region IV section, since I did those first
(game location doesn't matter).

This is followed by games of other Va. teams which give bonus points to
schools in 1 of those 4 Regions.

Next is the out-of-state section. Schools listed in CAPS are the ones that
give bonus points to teams in Regions C, D, III or IV, so some of the games
have both teams in CAPS (like Big Creek vs. Montcalm). I've also included
some games with no team in caps. These are other teams that I keep up with
for my game-night scoreboard from my neighboring counties : Pike (KY) & McDowell (WV).

Games marked with an * carry no points because a private school is the opponent.

Regional college games are listed at the bottom.

I also note homecoming games and schedule changes as I find out about them
(since VA has a history of Fall weather wackiness), so the "down-the-road"
pages are usually updated weekly, and the "current" week page is updated as
needed (sometimes nightly).

ALWAYS "call ahead" if you plan to attend a game I have listed.
I do NOT check with the schools for changes, but I do regularly check
newspapers and a few school web sites. (KY & TENN are bad to move games
to Thur. night when a teachers' in-service day is scheduled for a Friday.)

         interesting 2005 schedule tidbits

Bassett is the only Region IV team with no Group A opponents.

Gate City & Powell Valley are the only Region D (or Region C) teams
with no non-District games against Group A teams.

Lee plays more LPD teams (4) than Highlands teams (3).
Abingdon & Marion play more SWD teams (4) than Highlands teams (3).

Radford, Grundy & Fort Chiswell are the first VHSL teams to have 2 consective
bye weeks AND 10 games "within" a regular season. (This does not include :
teams that play 10 straight games by starting late, like Glenvar or Amherst Co.;
teams that play 10 straight games by ending early, like Castlewood,
or Magna Vista, which only had 9 games in 2004).

Castlewood is again the only team that finishes in Oct.

J.J. Kelly goes over a month without a home game, from 9/2 to 10/7.
Martinsville goes 6 weeks without a home game, from 9/2 to 10/14.
William Fleming goes 6 weeks without a home game, from 9/9 to 10/22.
Radford goes 7 weeks without a home game, from 9/2 to 10/21.

Alleghany goes 6 weeks without a road game, from 9/16 to 10/28.
Dan River goes 6 weeks without a road game, from 9/2 to 10/14.
Haysi goes 7 weeks without a road game, from 9/2 to 10/21.

Rye Cove plays 5 straight weeks at home, from 9/23 to 10/21.

Marion's last home game is 10/7.

Haysi's last home game is 10/14.

Castlewood, Lee & Thomas Walker's last road game is 10/14.

Narrows' last 3 games are on the road AND against District opponents.

Narrows only has 1 District home game (10/21 vs. Bland).
(this may change when the 11/11 Fort Chiswell game location is fixed)

Tazewell only has 1 District home game (9/30 vs. Richlands).

Carroll Co. only has 1 District road game (11/4 at Graham).

A lot of schools don't play a District game until 10/14.
Hurley & Bath Co. don't play their first District game until 10/21.
Haysi, Ervinton & Castlewood play their last District game on 10/21.

The Black Diamond is the only District where one team begins their
District schedule the same night another team finishes theirs.

Patrick Henry-Roanoke is the only AAA school with an August game
(8/26 vs. William Fleming).

Abingdon, Va. High, Arcadia & Nandua have a 6 week gap between District games.

Nandua is the only A or AA school with a District game on both 9/2 & 11/11.

Who's the "King" of Va. football? The regular season bragging rights are
up for grabs on Sept. 2nd, with the off-season title available on Nov. 11th,
thanks to some GREAT scheduling by King William.

Green Run of Va. Beach is closing in on the record for futility. The Stallions
haven't won since beating Tallwood on 10/29/99, and are just 2 losses away from
tying the 53-game skid which Thomas Jefferson (Richmond) ended on 10/10/03.

(For reference, in Nov, 1999, Tech was marching towards a Sugar Bowl date with FSU,
Gate City was still in Group AA, Garden made their last playoff appearance, and
Pound was on their way to the Div. 1 finals.)
