                        VPI

The construction crew working on Lane Stadium's expansion won't see much OT -
the Hokies 1st home game won't be until Sept. 17th.
Tech will open the season looking to avenge their only conf. loss in '04 -
a Labor Day weekend game at N.C. State.
Tech will look to improve on their 10-1 Thursday night record with back-to-back
    ESPN appearances in Oct.
Tech heads to Morgantown on Oct. 1.
Miami has been moved 'down' a month to early Nov.
Bryan Randall will back-up Vick this year. Deja vu, 2003? No, Randall signed
a free-agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
Clintwood's Justin Hamilton decided to move from TB to Free Safety before
Spring drills, but he tore a ligament in his ankle, causing him to miss
all of summer practice. Soph. D.J. Parker, who moved from Cornerback,
   is expected to start.
Former TE & back-up QB Chris Clifton has left the team.

                        UVA

Western Mich. switches from Tech to UVA
Duke & Maryland both move 'up' a month to late Sept. / early Oct.
The Tech game will be the Sat. before Thanksgiving
The 'Hoos first trip to the Orange Bowl will see them take the place of the
Hokies as season-ending guests of Miami.
Former TE Heath Miller is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

                        UT

Auburn replaced by LSU

                        Marshall

The Herd is one of six teams that join Conference USA this season.
Marshall has installed Fieldturf. The crown has been reduced from 20" to 6".
Ahmed Bradshaw (Graham, '04) is on the Media Guide cover

                        WVU

You've just played your last game as a h.s. QB. You look at your numbers.
43-60-1, 594 yards & 10 touchdowns. You decided to play minor league baseball.

Fast forward 6 years. A torn rotator cuff leads to surgery (your first
in just over two years, when you had three in 9 months). Your team
cuts you. You're a 25 year old free agent. Why not head to college and
pick up the ol' pigskin again, right?

J.R. House, a 1999 graduate of Nitro (just north of Charleston), was
the national prep record holder for career passing yardage for 4 years.
In the 1998 Class AAA title game against Morgantown, House threw 60 passes
for nearly 600 yards and 10 TD's.

He almost went to Tulane out of h.s. The Green Wave went 12-0, thanks
to an offense that averaged over 45 points and 300+ yards passing per game.
But before the ink on their Liberty Bowl contract was dry, Tommy Bowden
left for Clemson. And when a new coach was brought in a few days later,
off. coord. Rich Rodriguez followed Bowden. So House went with the horsehide
instead of the pigskin.

In 2001, House and the Pirates weren't seeing eye-to-eye, and the
'Eers had hired an alum (Rodriguez) to replace Don Nehlen. Rumors started,
and one reporter even wrote that House had enrolled at WVU. But he stayed
with the Pirates. Until this past Spring.

Now, House is back 'home'. And up against 4 other guys, including 2004
Kennedy Award winner Nate Sowers from Martinsburg, for the right to replace
Rasheed Marshall.

I wonder if a WVU-Fla.-Wake bowl game is on the horizon ???

                        ACC

Instant replay has been added for this season, but neither the coaches
nor the officials can ask for a review - only the "technical advisor" in
the press box can choose which plays to review. See :

                        BCS/polls

ESPN is no longer associated with the USA Today Coaches poll.

The AP poll is no longer part of the BCS - that component will be
replaced by a Harris Poll, made up of 114 voters - 10 from each of the
11 Div. 1-A conferences and 4 from the independents (3 from Notre Dame
and 1 from Navy). It will debut on Sept. 25th, and the first BCS poll
will be released on Oct. 17th. Only the final ballots will be released
by Harris, but any voter can choose to release any ballot at any time.
