Hot Track Of The Week:

This is a song currently in the Top 50 that I'll feature each week.

DJ Khaled featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper, & Lil' Wayne - I'm The One

Miami radio DJ-turned-multi platinum producer and social media star, DJ Khaled, has been responsible for some of the biggest Hip-Hop hits in the industry over the past decade. He's counted Akon, T-Pain, Drake, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Lil' Wayne, and Fat Joe, to name a few, as frequent collaborators. But the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, T.I., Beyoncé, & Jay-Z have also appeared on his songs. Despite his success in the genre, he's remained relatively on the periphery of the mainstream Pop genre. Probably his biggest Pop success was his Summer 2016 collaboration with Drake, "For Free." Until now... "I'm The One," the second single from his current album, Grateful, is rocketing up ALL of the industry charts in the U.S. It's already at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart (along with the Billboard R&B and Rap charts) and quickly approaching the Top 10 on the Pop radio airplay chart. This bouncy, catchy, and uptempo love jam is just the right song for the time of the year here in the U.S. when the weather starts to turn warmer!

Spotlight Song Of The Week:

This is a song from the Next In Line List that may be making a debut sometime within the next few weeks.

The Weeknd - Reminder

The latest single from The Weeknd's Starboy album is all about highlighting contradictions. Don't get me wrong. I like the song. I'm featuring it as the Spotlight Song Of The week, after all. But, those who knew of The Weekend before his 2014 & 2015 breakthrough - and even before his 2012 R&B hit, "Wicked Games" - probably view his success over the past two to three years as quite a departure from the artist he used to be. And, on "Reminder," The Weeknd - while celebrating his success - seems to lament that people don't seem to understand the type of artist he is...marveling that he won a Kids' Choice Award. Incidentally, "Reminder" also finds The Weekend revealing what his huge hit, "Can't Feel My Face" is REALLY about. Listen closely to the lyrics in the first verse when you watch the clip above! All in all, I do like The Weeknd's more uptempo songs more. But I have an appreciation for his darker songs like "Wicked Games," "Earned It," "The Hills," and "In The Night." "Reminder definitely falls into that category. We'll see if it's got what it takes to hit the big chart in the coming weeks!

Blast From The Past:

This is a song from the past that I'm featuring to bring back memories of yesteryear!

Shanice - Saving Forever For You

This week's Blast From The Past takes us back to 1992. Although she's most-remembered for her 1991 hit, "I Love Your Smile," many who think of R&B teen queen, Shanice Wilson, as a one-hit wonder are sadly mistaken! "Saving Forever For You" was released in 1992 from the soundtrack to the then-popular TV show, Beverly Hills, 90210. It would end up becoming one of three hit singles released from the album, along with "Love Is" by Vanessa Williams & Brian McKnight and "The Right Kind Of Love" by Jeremy Jordan. The perfect song for a TV show about teenagers, "Saving Forever For You" is a slow jam written by prolific hit songwriter, Diane Warren, about falling head over heels in love. Perhaps because Shanice was so young at the time she recorded it or that it's associated with Beverly Hills, 90210, but I always consider "Saving Forever For You" to told from the perspective of a young person who is looking at love through rose-colored glasses in an idealistic way. Love really isn't as easy as the song makes it sound. But it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I listen to it, anyway! It ended up peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart and would be Shanice's last Top 10 hit on that chart. After fading from view for a few years, she resurfaced in 1999...older and with a more sensual image. Her "comeback" single, "When I Close My Eyes" just missed the Top 10 on the Hot 100, peaking at #12. By the time the 2000s rolled around, Shanice had faded from the charts again. However, she still continues to record and release new music, last releasing a single in 2016.
