Hot Track Of The Week:

This is a song currently in the Top 50 that I'll feature each week.

John Legend - A Good Night

John Legend performed his latest single, "A Good Night," on the Billboard Music Awards in late May. Just a couple weeks prior to that, I first heard it and fell in love with it right away. It's a light, breezy, fun, and flirty song essentially about love at first sight. Or at least, that moment when you first meet someone and know they're going to be an important part of your life from that moment on. It's produced by BloodPop, who has also had a hand in creating a handful of popular songs over the past few years...namely "Sorry" and "Friends" by Justin Bieber and "Perfect Illusion" and "Million Reasons" by Lady Gaga, as well as many of the songs on Madonna's Rebel Heart album, Justin Bieber's Purpose album, and Lady Gaga's Joanne album. Although no upcoming album release date has been announced yet, it's likely the first single from a new John Legend album to be released later this year. I really like "A Good Night" a lot right now. Look for it to continue doing well on the chart.

Spotlight Song Of The Week:

This is a song from the Next In Line List that may be making a debut sometime within the next few weeks.

Macy Gray - Sugar Daddy

And now, a blast from days of music past! Macy Gray, with her reputation for having a gravelly voice and being slightly quirky, was a critical darling in late 1999 and 2000 due to her debut album, On How Life Is. Her tale of love that refuses to let go of you, "I Try," made her a star. But, it ended up being her only U.S. hit single. But, although it's been 18 years since her last hit, she's never stopped recording and releasing albums. After four major label albums, Macy moved over to an independent music label starting in 2010. "Sugar Daddy," a song Macy co-wrote with Meghan Trainor, is the lead single from her upcoming 10th studio album, Ruby...her first in two years. I love how fun and cute of a song it is. It won't end up being a huge Pop hit like "I Try" was, but that's okay. Give it a listen above. I think you might find yourself pleasantly suprised at how much you like it.

Blast From The Past:

This is a song from the past that I'm featuring to bring back memories of yesteryear!

Beyoncé - Love On Top

This week's Blast From The Past takes us back to 2011. Light, breezy, fun, and lighthearted seems to be the theme for the three featured songs of the week, so let's wrap it up with the Blast From The Past. "Love On Top" was released in late 2011 as a single from 4, the fourth studio album by R&B and Pop singer/songwriter, Beyoncé. It was one of those songs that, on the first listen, I absolutely loved. To me, it is the musical personification of driving down the open road with the windows down and the music up loud on a sunny day. It could also be labeled as the musical personification of that feeling you get when you're in love. It ended up spending five weeks at #1 on this very chart to close out 2011. It didn't fare quite as well on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. It peaked at #20 on that chart, but did hit #1 on the Billboard R&B Singles and Dance Songs charts. "Love On Top" also played a notable part in Beyoncé announcing that she was pregnant with her first child with Jay-Z. She performed the song at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and, looking back, we all should have known right from the beginning of the performance. She started the whole thing off by saying, "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me..." before starting to sing. While performing - including live vocals and choreography, it was clear the audience was having a good time, in fact the cameras showed many celebrities - Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, and Katy Perry included - dancing, bouncing around, and clapping along. After the song ended, Beyoncé dropped her microphone (before the TRUE drop the mic moment would take place just seconds later), unbuttoned the sequined purple tuxedo jacket she was wearing, and revealed to the audience and the world, her prominent baby bump. Just a few months later, Blue Ivy Carter was welcomed into the world. Now, two albums and two babies later, Beyoncé is currently promoting a joint album she and Jay-Z have released under the name, The Carters. There are also rumors beginning to circulate that she's pregnant with the couple's fourth child. I wonder if we'll get another surprise announcement in a few months...
