Hot Track Of The Week:

This is a song currently in the Top 50 that I'll feature each week.

Miley Cyrus - Malibu

It's been several weeks after it was featured on this page as the Spotlight Song Of The Week and I'm still a fan of Miley Cyrus' newest single, "Malibu." Her brand new down-to-earth and almost wise image is quite the change of pace from her past incarnations (fresh-faced "girl next door" Pop singer, Hip-Hop influenced party girl, and stoner twerk queen). But it works...until she adopts a new persona and image for her next project. Nevertheless, "Malibu" finds Miley in love and ready to settle down with her fiance, actor Liam Hemsworth, who she reconnected with more than a year ago after breaking up with him a few years back. She uses the midtempo love song to declare her love for him and amazement that she's ready to settle down and be with him in.....wait for it......Malibu! As good as the original version of the song is, I'm also liking the Him Remix, which is a decent version, as well.

Spotlight Song Of The Week:

This is a song from the Next In Line List that may be making a debut sometime within the next few weeks.

Lecrae f/ Tori Kelly - I'll Find You

Although he's been releasing music since 2006, Christian Hip-Hop artist, Lecrae, has really began to make a name for himself in the Gospel music arena over the past four years or so. Many of his singles have regularly hit the Top 5 (and often #1) on the Billboard Christian and Gospel charts of late. Although, because Billboard made Hip-Hop songs ineligible to chart on the Gospel chart in 2015, none of his recent singles have appeared on that chart. Within the past few months, his music has even started crossing over to non-Christian music charts. His previous single, "Blessings," a collaboaration with singer/rapper, Ty Dolla Sign, was a modest U.S. R&B hit. His newest single, "I'll Find You," is an inspirational collaboration with Soul/Pop singer/songwriter, Tori Kelly, who showed her spiritual leanings with "Hollow" the third single from her last album, which she has said was about God. One of the big reasons I don't usually like Gospel and Contemporary Christian songs is that I find them to often be too preachy...almost like a three or four minute church service. "I'll Find You" isn't that. If you didn't know that Lecrae was a Christian artist, you wouldn't necessarily peg it as a Gospel song. Give it a listen above and see what you think. We'll see if "I'll Find You" can make it onto the big chart.

Blast From The Past:

This is a song from the past that I'm featuring to bring back memories of yesteryear!

Madonna - Secret

This week's Blast From The Past takes us back to 1994. When picking a Madonna song to feature as a Blast From The Past, it's almost impossible to choose just one song, because her career has been chock full of big hits, and even songs that weren't necessarily big hits but were great songs nonetheless. For this weeks' Blast From The Past, I decided I'd like to revisit a hit that might not get as much shine as songs like "Vogue," "Like A Prayer," or "Like A Virgin." By the mid-90s, Madonna had dabbled in many different genres of music and adopted more than her fair share of personas and images. However, though she briefly flirted with Hip-Hop and R&B on 1990's "Justify My Love," she had never really full-on experimented with the sound. That all changed with the release of 1994's Bedtime Stories. Looking to soften her image after the backlash of the sexually explicit nature of her recent albums, Madonna used Bedtime Stories (along with the soundtrack single, "I'll Remember," which had been released earlier in 1994) to begin that transformation. She tapped then-popular R&B producers Babyface, Dallas Austin, Dave "Jam" Hall, and Nellee Hooper to work with her on the album. "Secret" was the first single from the album. A midtempo song about a love interest with a secret, it went all the way to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart in the U.S. It also sparked debate about what exactly the secret was. Perhaps providing a clue, the music video ends with Madonna joining her boyfriend who is spending time with his son. "Secret" has always been one of my favorites in her singles catalog. Madonna would continue her amazing run of musical success as well as start a family of her own by having and adopting children. Although she's continued to record and release music - as well as tour - she hasn't been quite as popular since the end of the 2000s. These days, she seems to make headlines more for her questionable and controversial social media posts than her music. But with a resume and a musical catalog like hers, maybe that's okay!
