Hot Track Of The Week:

This is a song currently in the Top 50 that I'll feature each week.

Kehlani - Distraction

Originally getting her start as a contestant on the U.S. Reality TV competition show, America's Got Talent as a member of the group, PopLyfe, R&B singer, Kehlani Parrish - or simply Kehlani - has continued to build a reputation and pay her dues in the industry. Her sultry and seductive latest single, "Distraction," is getting some exposure on Contemporary R&B radio. I like this catchy little ditty. We'll see if it can continue to rise up the chart in the coming weeks.

Spotlight Song Of The Week:

This is a song from the Next In Line List that may be making a debut sometime within the next few weeks.

Stargate featuring Pink & Sia - Waterfall

Proven and prolific hitmaking Norwegian production duo, Stargate, has produced some of the biggest hits of the past 15 years - including "So Sick," "Because Of You," and "Miss Independent" by Ne-Yo, "Irreplaceable" by Beyoncé, "Don't Stop The Music," "Hate That I Love You" (a duet with Ne-Yo), "Take A Bow," "Rude Boy," "Only Girl (In The World)," "What's My Name?" (featuring Drake), "S&M," and "Diamonds" by Rihanna, "Tattoo" by Jordin Sparks, "With You" by Chris Brown, "Black & Yellow" and "Roll Up" by Wiz Khalifa, "Firework" by Katy Perry, "Come & Get It" and "Same Old Love" by Selena Gomez," and "Black Widow" (featuring Rita Ora) by Iggy Azalea, just to name a few. Now, like RedOne did last year, they've decided that it's high time they put together their own album as a lead artist. The first single, "Waterfall," features vocals by Pink and Sia...the latter of whom has - along with Ne-Yo - written several of the songs that they've produced. It's a low-key and somewhat chill song about being so infatuated with and into someone that you're "caught up in their waterfall." Confusing symbolism and imagery aside, it's a pretty decent song.

Blast From The Past:

This is a song from the past that I'm featuring to bring back memories of yesteryear!

Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode

This week's Blast From The Past takes us back to 1958. Even though it's not his biggest hit, in terms of chart performance, "Johnny B. Goode," from his third album, Chuck Berry Is On Top, is often the song most closely associated with late R&B musician, Chuck Berry, who passed away on March 18 at the age of 90. Berry was one of the pioneers of Rock 'N Roll music and is thought of by many as the person who is primarily responsible for ushering in the so-called "Rock 'N Roll era" of music in the mid-1950s. Although through today's "everybody has to fit in a box" lens, Berry is mostly thought of as an R&B act, his guitar-driven songs and sound served as inspiration for many of the Rock acts that would come after him in the 1960s and later. With hits like "Maybellene," "Sweet Little Sixteen," "No Particular Place To Go," and "You Never Can Tell," Berry had an image as one of the "coolest cats" in the early years of Rock 'N Roll. In 1972, Berry would score his only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with a live cover of "My Ding-A-Ling." And although, thanks to being used in the famous John Travolta/Uma Thurman dance scene in Pulp Fiction, "You Never Can Tell," has a cult following even now, it's "Johnny B. Goode" that stands as Berry's signature hit. And those of us who came of age in the 1980s will forever remember the cover version used in the memorable prom scene near the end of the classic 1985 Michael J. Fox movie, Back To The Future. It peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart and #2 on the Billboard R&B chart. By the mid-1970s, Berry had faded from the music chart, however, he continued to tour and perform. Later this year, his first album since 1979 will be released. His contributions to music over the years have been immeasurable. Although one could argue, if it hadn't been him, someone else would've served as inspiration for where music has gone since he came to popularity in the mid 1950s, it's hard to believe whoever that might have been would've been anywhere near as talented.
