Blood Redemption in Christ
the Central Theme of the Bible

By John Roden

"Then He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself." (Luke 24:25-27)

Paul's Personal Testimony
of His Conversion

We find 3 accounts of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus in the book of Acts. The first is given by Luke, the writer of Acts (Acts 9:1-22). The second and third accounts, though recorded by Luke, are given by Paul himself in Acts 22:1-21 and Acts 26:1-32. When Paul was given the opportunity to speak in these last 2 accounts, he immediately gave his personal testimony of how God saved him, referring back to that initial experience of his conversion. Though he lived in daily fellowship with the risen Lord with an abiding trust in the Crucified One, Paul never forgot his time of love—that experience on the Damascus road, when God gave him that effectual call (also referred to in Galatians 1:15-16), when the Lord Jesus Christ made Himself known to him, when he was born again, when old things passed away, and all things became new, 2 Corinthians 5:17.

“Turn or Burn”

"If he turn not, He will whet His sword; He hath bent His bow and made it ready." (Psalm 7:12)

"Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:5)

By C. H. Spurgeon

In this age of "easy-believism," "Repentance toward God" (Acts 20:21; 17:30-31) is the missing note in much modern-day evangelistic preaching. In this message, Spurgeon defines it and urges its absolute necessity in true conversion.

Forgiving Others

“If you can't forgive others, you have burned the bridge over which you must pass.”—The Voice of Truth Magazine

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Are You Saved, or
Are You Deceived?

"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" (2 Corinthians 13:5)

The old spiritual put it well: "Everybody that's talkin' 'bout heaven ain't going there." How does one know for certain whether he is truly saved, or whether he has made a false profession of faith in Christ?

Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you really want to know if you are truly saved? You need only answer one question: "Is Christ truly precious to you?" Search your own heart by listening to this audio message by C. H. Spurgeon:

The sovereign grace of God cannot really be understood unless the Holy Spirit gives us some insight into the total depravity of man. This work by Pink is one of the best and most exhaustive on the subject.

The Divine Absolute

Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said:

Heaven and earth shall pass away,
but
my words shall not pass away.
(Mark 13:31)

The Anvil of God's Word

Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime:
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

How many anvils have you had, said I,
To wear and batter all these hammers so?
Just one, said he, and then, with twinkling eye,
The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.

And so, thought I, the Anvil of God's Word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed . . . the hammers gone.
