1999 NCAA Tournament Pool

On a cold, winter day in January of 1998, a young man boldly declared to anyone who would listen that the University of Connecticut would win the men's basketball championship. He did not say they would win the title that same year, but rather, the following year. The 1999 NCAA Tournament. Fourteen months prior to its conclusion, this man correctly picked the tournament winner. It was a prediction that will take its rightful place alongside those of Nostradomus...

What happened when 1999 rolled around? Every pundit and every prognosticator picked Duke to win it all. Bookies were merely speculating on how large Duke's margin of victory would be. Yet one person still believed in Connecticut, and when they shocked the members of this tournament and the nation as a whole, he stood proudly. Connecticut, the unheralded underdog, struck down the mighty Goliath, and sports history was made. Therefore, without further ado, the unveiling of this year's NCAA Tournament Pool champion: Tony.

Before events reached this point, however, each entrant submitted one ballot, selecting winners for all sixty-three games. Points were awarded for each correctly picked game, with point totals listed below. (In the event of a tie, the team with the most correctly picked games would have been declared the winner.) Points were awarded on the following scale:
