After their 181-99 destruction of Godking's Legion, the Gunslingers were crowned as the league's first ever champ, and in so doing, won 50% of the league's pot for their owner, Avon. Godking's Legion had to know the situation looked bleak on Sunday, having lost QB Mark Brunell to an injury on his first pass play of the game. QB Vinny Testaverde, slinging a league record forty-two completions for the Benevolent Dictators, had just put the Legion in a hole, and the Legion had to be wondering where their points would come from. Enter the Miami Defense. Six interceptions, eight sacks, and two touchdowns later - for a total of fifty-eight points! - Godking's Legion had managed an improbably victory, and a berth in SLaM Bowl I.
