Joseph L. Thomas, Sr.
was born Abt. 1759, and died Aft. June 1832 in GA.

Application was made in Union County, Georgia, 1st June 1854 personally appeared before me, John Davidson, a Justice of the Superior Court in said county and state, Joseph Thomas, age 95, a resident of Union Co. Ga. applied under Act, June 7, 1832, states he volunteered in the army in 1782 from the state of Virginia and served a tour of three months under Capt. James Gaines, and that he volunteered for a second tour of 3 months from Surry County, North Carolina in the same year and served in regiment of infantry under Colonel __________. and volunteered the third time for 3 months from Union Co. South Carolina, and served under Col. Brandon and that during the period of his services as above named, he marched to Moravian towns as guard of prisoners and in the latter part of his services was ordered by Colonel Thomas Brandon as a guard to convey some Tory prisoners from Union County, S.C. across the Pedee River and he further states by reason of old age and loss of memory that he cannot swear positive to the names of all the officers that he served under. He appoints power of atty; Wm. R. Query and Henry H. Walker of Stock Hill, GA. He relinquishes every claim to a pension and declares that his name is not on the pension roll or agency of any state, and states that he is the identical Joseph Thomas named in the certificate hereto attached (certified copy).
