This section deals with all rules and regulation pertaining to equipment used in a game.
Safety
Safety is a very important issue to us. We want all players to have a good time but at the same time we want to be a safe as possible when playing.
Airsoft Guns
Players may use any airsoft gun as long as it complies with the velocity limits. AEG's are recommended for sustained play.
Velocity Limits Airsoft guns will not chronograph greater than 395 fps (Feet Per Second) with .20g (or, 350 fps with .25g) ANY READING OF 400 OR HIGHER WITH A .20G BB WILL IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFY THE GUN.
One reason is that many players like to put camouflage paint on their face for the game because it enhances the overall game experience, and it's fun. We found that using velocities higher than 400 fps with a 0.20g BB can cause minor injuries to the face when shooting at closer ranges, not to mention that it is painful. Also, higher than 400 fps would necessitate that players wear full face masks to protect themselves. However, most players do not find face masks very military looking. Lowering the maximum velocity allows players to play without a mask and without having worrying about any serious injuries to the face.
Balance of Power
Balance of power is another important reason for our decision. There are a lot of players who like to upgrade their airsoft guns for various reasons. If we allowed a much higher velocity, players playing with stock guns would simply be outgunned. This would create an unfair advantage for some players. We found that the 400-fps with a 0.20g BB is a happy medium between the stock and up-graded guns. It satisfies those players who like to upgrade their guns to create a slight range advantage, but they are not seriously outgunning players who are using stock guns.
The only exception to this rule are our special, "large caliber" project guns that are designed to be mounted on vehicles, or as a fixed defensive position guns. The reason for these exceptions is that in real life, soldiers fear big caliber guns because of their range and firepower. So we simulate this by allowing these special use airguns to have a slightly higher velocity. Also, by placing them on vehicles or in fixed positions only, it makes them easier to see and locate. Thus, players can readily avoid close contact with them. A player must seek prior approval before such a gun is eligible to be used. Sorry, but sniper rifles are not eligible for this exception.
Wear & Tear
While not a major influence in our decision-making process, we have found from personal experience that creating an airsoft gun that shoots over 400 fps usually requires an M-130 spring or higher. Most AEG guns gearboxes were not designed for this higher stress level. In short, you will find that most AEGs that use M-130 springs or higher will have a very short lifespan. In most cases, it's relatively cheaper and easier to replace parts inside a gearbox. But if you break a gearbox, it's a major pain in the butt, not to mention expensive. So from an economical viewpoint, lower "fps" limits are much easier on your airsoft gun and your wallet.
Goggles
Goggles are MANDATORY! All goggles and safety glasses must have a hard lens and must meet ANSI Z87.1 standards; ANSI Z80.3 is even better. There must be a full seal around the eyes and goggles must have a safety strap to prevent them from falling off. Goggles with soft lenses and shop glasses without a full face seal are not acceptable. Goggles and glasses with anti-fog lenses are highly recommended.
Currently we recommend any approved paintball goggles or tactical goggles made by Bolle.
Mask and mouth pieces
While not mandatory, we strongly recommend that players also use a facemask or mouthpiece when playing. The reason for this is, although extremely rare, airsoft guns have been known to chip teeth.
Paint Grenades
Since airsoft currently does not have any effective grenades to date, we allow paint grenades to be used. This is one of our few remnants from our paintball days. Non-exploding paint grenades, such as the "Tippman Squad Buster," are the only type of paint munitions allowed to be used against personnel. Paint grenades can usually be bought at the field.
Smoke
Smoke markers may be used only when playing on private property and only when we have been given permission to do so. Please seek permission before using one.
Radios
Players are highly encouraged to have radios. They add greatly to game play and all players should have one. Most players currently use Motorola TalkAbout radio. Some players use Kenwood radios as well. Should you wish to use a Motorola, we recommend any TalkAbout that start with the "T" designation except the "T-5100". This radio does not have sub-channels and come only in blue.
We do not allow players to use voice-activated microphones or scanning features. We do not allow 'signal tones' so make sure that feature is turned off.
SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS
CONDUCT & SPORTSMANSHIP
Airsoft is a military simulation. Players should strive to complete their objective and are encouraged to play act.
Honor and sportsmanship is expected at all times both on and off the field.
WHAT CONSTITUTES A KILL
Any hit to any part of your body or tactical gear including items worn around the waist and vests is a hit. Gun hits do not count.
GRENADE HITS
Any splatter from a paint grenade or water balloon, no matter how small, constitutes a hit.
HOW TO CALL YOURSELF OUT
Yell 'HIT! HIT! HIT!' repeatedly and raise your gun or red rag to signify you are hit. You are also encouraged to act by crying out and falling down.
Keeping your arms in the air, exit the play area IMMEDIATELY and proceed to your designated 'dead man' zone. DO NOT LOITER ABOUT THE FIELD, TRY TO OBSERVE THE GAME, OR TALK TO OTHER PLAYERS. Turn your back to the action and leave the field immediately!
RE-INCARNATION
Many games use a 're-incarnate' system to allow them to be of longer duration (1-3 hrs.) Deadman typically wait 5 minutes in their designated 'dead man' zone and then may return to battle.
Dead men may NOT spectate or otherwise observe or repeat any intellegince and must pretend to be 'DEAD.' For example, you are not allowed to react to or discuss something you have seen when you are dead. 'Dead men don't talk!'
CHEATING
Honor and integrity to call yourself out is a fundamental aspect of airsoft and cheating is grounds for immediate dismissal.
We expect you to honor the rules from the chrono station to calling yourself out on the field and anything less is considered grounds for immediate dismissal and you will most likely be banned from our games as well.
EYE PROTECTION
Proper eye protection must be on at all times during the game. NEVER remove your eye protection during a game!
SAFETY ZONE
There is a 25' min safety zone around players and no one may shoot that close with an upgraded gun. The use of your secondary must then be used.
HOW TO SURRENDER
Surrenders may only be used when the opponent is caught entirely by surprise and from the flank or rear.
A call of 'surrender!' must be complied with and it is mandatory to call yourself out. DO NOT attemp to turn and shoot your attacker; just call 'HIT!' and thank them for not blowing you away!
DISPUTES ON THE FIELD
Should there be an objection to a Surrender call because of their mis-use, both players are expected to resolve the issue in a timely fasion. If not, both players are considered 'hit' and must exit the field immediately.
NO PHYSICAL CONTACT
There is no physical contact with another player at any time.
'BLIND MAN'
If your eye protection fogs up or you cannot otherwise see, do not move around blindly. Instead call 'Blind Man! Blind Man! Blind Man!' repeatedly until everyone is calling it and realizes the game has stopped.
This is used for all emergancies and only in case of emergancy because it stops the entire game. Note: running out of ammo or having a gun problem does not constitute an emergancy!
CIVILIAN ENCOUNTERS
Should a civilian approach or travel through the game field, cease all activity until they pass by. Be sure to lower your guns and wave 'hello' to them so as not to alarm anyone. When they passed, call 'GAME ON!' to continue play.
REFEREES
We pride ourselves on the fact that we do not require referees. Ref's are not realistic and are not required when everyone plays with honor.
We are our own referees and any disputes or other issues on the field should be taken to the closest Member for immediate resolution.
