Left to slip down
the social stairway
by ill-starred parents,
the would-have-been
college boy swims
upstream in place
with other starvlings,
endurance scarred
for single retirement
near campus libraries,
joining verse as solace
and bleak testament
of creation trashed.
Here then reader
and being of light,
reality unmasked.
