Preemie Shell Angel Gown

Materials:

Sport weight, 3 ply yarn

Crochet Hooks size F and E

1/8 inch wide ribbon - 21 inches for front of dress

NOTE: This gown is completely open down the back. Ties at the neckline. ****See note at end of pattern.

Row 1: With F hook, Ch 32. Dc in 3rd ch from hook. Dc in next 3 dc. (Dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch, *dc in next 6 ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch. Repeat * two times. Dc in last 4 ch. Ch 3, turn. (34 sts)

NOTE: Work in back loops only to Row 9.

Rows 2 and 3: *Dc in each st to ch 2 sp. (Dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp. Repeat from * 3 times. Dc in each dc to end. Ch 3, turn. (Row 2 - 42 sts/ Row 3 - 50 sts)

Row 4: *Dc in each st to ch 2 sp. (Dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp. Repeat from * 3 times. Dc in each dc to end. Ch 2, turn. (58 sts)

Row 5: *Hdc in each st to ch sp. (Hdc, ch 2, hdc) in ch 2 sp. Repeat from * 3 times. Hdc in each st to end. Ch 2, turn. (66 sts)

Row 6: (Forming sleeves) Hdc in each st to ch 2 sp. Hdc in ch 2 sp, skip all sts to next ch 2 sp, hdc in ch 2 sp, hdc in each st to next ch 2 sp, hdc in ch 2 sp. Skip all sts to next ch 2 sp, hdc in ch 2 sp. Hdc in remaining sts to the end. Ch 3, turn. (37 sts)

Row 7: Dc in same st as ch 3, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * to last 4 sts. Dc in each st to end. Ch 3, turn. (45 sts)

Row 8: Dc in same st as ch 3, *dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * to last 2 sts. Dc in last 2 sts. Ch 4, turn. (52 sts)

Row 9: Dc, ch 1, Dc in 3rd dc of previous row. *Skip 2 sps, dc, ch 1, dc in next sp. Repeat from * to end of row. Dc in last st. Ch 3, turn. (17 V-sts)

Row 10: Shell st (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in each V-st across. Ch 3, turn. (17 shell sts)

Row 11: Shell st in each shell st across. Ch 3, turn. (17 shell sts)

Rows 12 thru 26: Repeat Row 11.

Rows 27 thru 28: *3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in each shell st across. Ch 3, turn.

Row 29: *6 dc in ch 1 space of previous row, sc between shells. Repeat from * across. End off. Finish end loose ends.

Neckline: With E hook, Ch 45, with front of gown facing you, attach to back st of Row 1 in first stitch. Sc in each st across. Ch 45, end off. Work loose ends up inside the chain.

Tie 21 inch ribbon into a bow to front st of Row 1.

****NOTE: For 1-2 lb preemie gown, use Size 00 crochet hook and Baby Fingering weight yarn. Also on Rows 1-5 where it states to (dc, ch 2, dc) USE ch 1 instead of ch 2 to make a smaller space. Follow remaining pattern.

You can also use a D hook and Red Heart Baby Yarn, 3 ply for the 1-2 lb gown. Follow the above directions using (dc, ch 1, dc).

Ginger's Easy Preemie Booties

For Ginger's preemie bootie, I use a E hook. Use 10 inches of ribbon. For the 1-2 lb bootie, I use a 00 steel hook and 9 inches of ribbon.
