Exploring Waikiki

Today was my first full day in Hawaii so I headed out to explore my neighborhood of Waikiki Beach. It was cloudy in the morning but got sunny as the day went on as you see.

Another picture of beautiful Waikiki Beach.

And Another.

A view looking in the other direction. Pay no attention to Big Bertha and her sister Big Betty who are on the right hand side of the pic.

A group of palm trees on Waikiki Beach. I took this early in the day when it was still cloudy.

It's Duke Kahanamoku, the father of international surfing. You can go read his entire biography here if you want to know more about him. People honor him by placing leis on his statue.

Hey look, it's me and the Duke!

The Wizard Stones, also known as The Healing Rocks. The legend says that sometime before 1400, these four large stones were hauled two miles to the beach by Ancient Hawaiians. They were believed to be empowered with the mana (spiritual force) of four great Tahitian kahuna (priests) known throughout the island as healers.
