Aug 1968 | Luther Perkins dies as a result of being burnt in a fire. Carl Perkins begins playing guitar full time. |
Sept 1968 | Bob Wootton (guitar) joins the Johnny Cash Show. Carl Perkins begins perfoming only part-time again. |
1971-1974 | Larry Butler (piano), Bill Walker (piano), Walter Cunningham (piano), Tommy Williams (fiddle)& Gordon Terry (fiddle) perform part-time in the show. |
Summer 1973 | Larry McCoy (piano) joins the show. Funny story: When he interviewed for the job he had never even heard I Walk the Line. |
Aug 1974 | Jerry Hensley (guitar) joins the show. |
Early 1977 | Larry McCoy leaves and rockabilly, delta-rhythm, boogie piano player Earl Poole Ball joins the show. |

Late 1980 | Joe Allen (bass) leaves, Henry Strzelecki (bass) joins the band for a short time. Also, Chris Powell plays bass during the Summer 1981 and then by October Marty Stuart is playing bass full time. |

April 1982 | Jerry Hensley (guitar) leaves the band to work in Texas with Chris Powell. Jimmy Tittle (bass) joins the band. The band is now the Great-Eighties Seven. |

Stuart leaves the band to begin his solo career.
Marty found Jim Soldi (guitar) to take his place in the band. |
1986-1987 | Jimmy Tittle leaves the band for a while and Joe Allen takes over playing bass. |
Fall 1987 | Jimmy Tittle returns to the band and Joe Allen leaves. |
May 1989 | Hugh Wadell plays drums during a European Tour for W.S. Holland |
Sept 1989 | The Man in Black goes back to the basics. Bob Wootton (guitar), Jim Soldi (guitar), Jimmy Tittle (bass), Bob Lewin (keyboards/horns), and Jack Hale, Jr. (harmonica/horns) leave the band. |

1993-1996 | Helen Carter's son, David Carter Jones, plays guitar in the show for some tours. |
1994-1995 | Earl Ball was away quite a bit during this time, so the Tennessee Three was recreated for a while. |
