My 924 was born in August of 1976 to goodly parents. Shortly after arrival to it's earthly home, it was brought over here to the United States from Germany (West Germany those days) to fulfill the dreams and hopes of the American public. It also served the purpose of emptying the wallets of the lower middle class who always wanted to fit in with the "Porsche crowd." My mother purchased the car sometime in 1978 when it was still a baby. Back then it was a maroon color (you can generally see the color in the front wheel well) with a big yellow stripe that somewhat looked like the trim on the Martini 924's. One of the unfortunates about my now aging '77 is that in 1977 Porsche equipped the 924's with the least powerful engine ever available in it's model ever at 95 bph. That is okay though; someday it'll scream. Over the years it has gone the distance with an estimated 300,000 miles on the original engine and 4 speed transmission. I have no way of being 100% accurate on the actual mileage because the odometer quit a long time ago. I aquired the car in 1996 as a birthday present from my parents. Along with the car, I got a new paint job and a reupholster job for it in Tiajuana, Mexico for about $600. After I got it painted I installed a flex-dam on the front which probably didn't do much for performance, but made it look better and a bit more modern. A couple years later I came across a junked 924S and purchased the back window and spoiler which also helped the looks of the car. It's riding on a little bigger rubber than stock with BFGoodrich 195-60X14 on the front and 215-60X14 Radial T/A's. I've had to put plenty of work into the car since I've had it. Since I've had the car I've had to replace the water pump, alternator, exhaust manifold, pilot bearing (2 times), clutch, and radiator. I've had some other small quirks, but for the most part it has been a great car. It handles great and really is a fun car to drive.
