This is the first cradle I ever made.I will never do another like it. Today, the
curves would be formed from bent wood and the spindles would be turned and fitted
with square tenons.(round tenons are programmed for failure although 13
years later I'm still waiting. Must a done something right) Knowing
nothing about open joint time, I used aliphatic resin(yellow carpenter's)
glue. The spindle spacing exceeds the safety standard. The wood of course is walnut
stained with medium walnut WATCO which I suppose is the reason for the reddish hue.
Like I said, this is the first cradle I ever made. Still, with all of these mistakes
I like to look at it and I dote on the Uhs and ahs provided by visitors to my
daughter's home. The design is sound and the craftsmanship is adequate.
Now filled with yarn, this heirloom is waiting for the next generation.
