Family Violence in Vernal

In 2003, in Uintah County, the Vernal Victim Advocacy Program received over 6000 calls concerning violence intervention, maintained records for 384 clients, and assisted in over 200 petitions for Protective Orders, 103 Protective Order Petitions on Behalf of Children, 27 cases involving Stalking and 20 cases involving Sexual Assault. These figures are increased when added information from the Vernal City Police Department and the Uintah County Sheriff's Office responses to crime scenes in which the victim may have, for whatever reason, declined the assistance of the Advocacy Program. In 2003 Vernal Victim Advocates responded to 97 mobile crisis calls. When contacted by law enforcement, advocates responded and arrived at the crime scene or emergency room within an average of 15 minutes, to aid victims of crime and their families.
