My Quaker Birds

gif provided and designed by Kathleen Carr at

This page is dedicated my Quaker Birds: Bongo, Clover, Indy, Kibble and Bits. And their good friends Eamy and Tommy! And any other quaker friends from the Quaker Parakeet Mailing List!

Back in September I had a great loss in my family. Which resulted in the death of my little sweetheart Aspen. It was a very sad time for me. And continues to be a real heartbreak in my life. Some of my friends from the quaker mailing list that I am on got together and pitched in to buy me a new sweetheart. And that would be my newest whom I have named Willow. He is 2 months old. And was hatched in Oklahoma. So far he has been a real jewel. And I am glad to have him as a special reminder of Aspen and my dear friends.

In June 1998 Indy came into my life. I got her when I went to a bird fair in Indianapolis. She is a baby of Theresa and Alan Jordans. She came to me with a special handicap she is what is called a splayed leg. But I have been able to correct that pretty well. And she gets around just great. As if there is no problem.
I will add more pictures as I get them! Quakers are very intelligent and wonderful birds. I hope you enjoy these pictures!

This is the most recent picture of all my quakers. From left to right, top: Bongo, Bits. Middle: Kibble and Clover. Bottom: Indy and Willow. Here is all of my quakers when I still had Aspen with me. They are a real joy to have in my life. Each with unique personalities. From left to right: Bits, Aspen, Bongo, (back) Kibble, Indy and Clover. And don't ask how I can tell them apart!!

My previously new quaker that I got from a breeder that was going out of the business. Is Bits. Her mate had passed on and she began to pluck from being so lonely. After a few days thinking I came up with a name for her and that is Bits. She had never been handled or loved, so when she came home I went through a few days of very sore fingers. But she has finally decided that I am ok, and here to love her. And she is now a very loving bird. A real sweetheart! So here is Bits.

Recently my little Aspen started showing signs of not being herself. I was concerned so I took her to the avian vet. The vet told us that she has what is called Vestibular Disease. It affects her balancing. I was told to keep her warm and in a brooder. She did not want to eat on her own much so I bought some handrearing formula and some little spray and started hand feeding her. Thank goodness she liked it and I was able to keep some food in her and help her to get better. The way we were going to get her better has to give her a series of antibiotic injections every 10 days. So far she has had two! She is doing much better, and is back to her normal self. We still have 2 more injections to go. But we are on the way to a full recovery! While she was in her brooder and starting to do a lot better I took some pictures of her! These were signs she was getting back to being her old self!
Aspen loves to hold her wiffle ball when she eats! Notice it being held tightly with one foot!
Aspen likes to put the wiffle balls in her food dish!
Aspen just can't let go of that ball!
Aspen in her birdy hut that I made for her. She loves her birdy hut and sleeps in it every night!
Aspen decided to help me eat my mexican rice. She did save me some.

Some people on the quaker parakeet list are wanting to see how a quaker will get along with another species of bird. So here is a picture of one of my quakers that has bonded and become very good buddies with a mitred conure, Bongo & Bethoven

I met my friend Pam, on the quaker mailing list. She lives a couple of cities just South of me. We have become very good friends. Eamy actually belongs to Pam's daughter Shilo.
Here is the first debut of Eamy the Quaker Bird
and her slave holding Aspen & Eamy after their bath!
Here we have Aspen and Eamy taking their first bath together! They are such love birds! hehehe! Eamy saying "Get me outta here!, Aspen kissing Eamy, telling her "it's ok", Eamy returning the kiss!
I hope that you have enjoyed Eamy's World Wide Web debut!
Tommy is the quaker that needed to find a new home. So for Christmas I gave him to Pam. Unfortunately Pam has had to find a new home for Tommy. But so that Tommy's former owners can still see his picture online here are the pictures that I took when he first went to live with Pam. Sara, John & Tommy and finally Pam & Tommy!

A friend of mine from the Quaker Parakeet Mailing List who lives in Missouri has a couple of really sweet quakers. They are Hoss and Babybird, and Hoss and Babybird sitting on Angie's shoulder. Hoss is the one closest to her ear! What cuties!

Here is one of the first pictures I took of Aspen sitting on top of her new cage! For Christmas I got another new quaker. Actually I bought her as a present for a friend but things did not work out so I am keeping her. My friends kids and I named her Clover. She is a very sweet bird and loves to cuddle, she is now learning to talk and sing from Aspen. Aspen is such a good teacher! It is so cute!
Aspen on her first camping trip!
Bongo sitting on my PINK Scooter that I won!
Aspen after a shower!
Kibble just after I got her! Her first picture and debut on the web!
Aspen & Clover decided to hang out with the stuffed animals on the headboard of my bed!
