Elisha Sheppard Family

Elisha Sheppard, the son of (Isaac Sheppard) and Margaret (Cox) Sheppard was born 13 September 1791 in North Carolina. He came with his parents to the Cape Girardeau area in what was the Louisana Territory in 1809. On 4 July 1820 he married Malinda Blount, the daughter of Captain Joel Blount. Malinda was born 15 December 1804 in Kentucky and came to the Cape Girardeau area with her parents. Elisha and Malinda were the parents of twelve children, all born in Missouri, as follows:

• I. Martha Ann Sheppard who was born ca. 1821-1825 and was married on 12 December 1842 (Book B page 89 Cape Girardeau Co., MO) to Jarvis Daugherty.
• II Napoleon B. Sheppard who was born ca. 1826 and died between 29 Jun 1858 and 5 Jan 1859. On 28 May 1846 he married Sydney (Susan?) Roe (Book B page 178 CGC, MO). In 1850, the census shows them as the parents of a 3 year old son, James, and a 1 year old daughter, Melinda. In the 1860 census Sidney is shown as head of the household with daughter Melinda, a son John F, age 8, a son Elisha W., age 4 and a son, William N., age 2. Both Napoleon and the son, James are missing from this census and are likely deceased.
• III Christopher Columbus Sheppard who was born c.a. 1830 and died before 1850. He married Malinda Adeline Kinder, who was born c. a. 1829, on 28 April 1849 (Book B page 293 CGC, MO) On 1850 Missouri census, Malinda A. Sheppard is shown living with her father & mother-in- law. On 1 July 1852, she married Mortimer Leonard(Book B page 372 CGC, MO).
• IV ______ Sheppard (male) born 1820-1825.
• V Francis Marion Sheppard
• VI Elisha W. Sheppard who was born c. a. 1833 and in 1858 was in Amador County, California.
• VII Margaret E. Sheppard who was born on 2 October 1837 and died on 24 November 1929. On 26 September 1857, she married (Book C page 84 CGC, MO) her second cousin, William M. Bennett (the son of Sara(Sheppard) Bennett who was the daughter of John Sheppard). A daughter of Margaret and William, Ida May Bennett, married her cousin, Albert Price Sheppard, the son of Isaac Newton Sheppard. Note: Cemetery marker reflects 30 Nov 1929 as date of death.
• VIII Zelema (Salina) Sheppard, a male, born c. a.1842.
• IX Missouri A. Sheppard who was born 7 July 1845. She married Solomon P. Long on 5 October 1865 in Lamar County, Texas. She died on 26 Feb 1941 and is buried in Checotah, Oklahoma (no marker).
• X-XII Three children of unknown sex, ages or names who died at early ages.
