Dorcus Sheppard Family

Dorcus Sheppard was born about 1775 probably in Anson County North Carolina. She married Jesse Llewellyn who was born about 1763 in Virginia. They were married about 1787 in either the state of Virginia or in Anson County, North Carolina. They had the following children:

  1. Elisabeth Lewellen married to ?Bennett
  2. Jemina Lewellen married to Nathaniel Bivens in Anson County, North Carolina. They moved to Tennessee about 1809.
  3. Mary Lewellen married to ?Hough
  4. Sally Lewellen
  5. Isaac Lewellen born April 12 1795 in Lanes Creek, Anson County, North Carolina. Married about 1816 to Mary (Trimble) Watts in Anson County, North Carolina. Died Jan. 29, 1855 in Prentis County, Mississippi.
  6. Jesse Lewellen, Jr. born about 1801 in Anson County, North Carolina. Married June 6, 1839 to Ann Eliza Hatchell(Hicks) in Marshall County, Mississippi. Died July, 1864 in Marshall County, Mississippi.
  7. William C. Lewellen born Jan. 5, 1803 in Anson County, North Carolina. Married about 1828 to Sarah Fryar in Henderson County, Tennessee.He died Oct. 3, 1856 in Tippah County, Mississippi and is buried at Wier's Chapel cemetery in Tippah County. Sarah who was born 7 Aug 1810 died 24 Oct 1877 and is also buried at Wiers Chapel.
  8. Alfred B. Lewellen born 1812 in Anson County, North Carolina. Married about 1831 in ?Texas. Spouses first name ?Charlotte.
  9. Thomas Amon Lewellen born 1816 in Anson County, North Carolina. Spouse Mary H.
  10. Ellis Lewellen born 1820 in Anson County, North Carolina.

Dorcus Sheppard had a will executed in Anson County, North Carolina in 1842. It was executed by a friend and neighbor James Marsh. One of the witnesses was Daniel Watts (son of Thomas Watts).(Isaac Lewellen married Mary Watts, brother to Daniel.) The will was witnessed by Richmond Mack Shepherd son of William Shepherd, Jr and Elizabeth Yerby. Two grandsons were mentioned in the will. 1. Jesse B. Lewellen (son of Alfred) and 2. Benjamine F. Lewellen.(father unknown at present.) Ref. Anson County, North Carolina Deed Book 10, p.169-170 and Will Book B page 146.
