Greyhound to Reno story: Raoul and I went to the 1999 burning man, but that's not what this is about, the time it took to get there and back was twice as long as the time spent there. It took four days to get from Minneapolis to Reno. I have since redefined they way I imagine hell being like. ..*Twitch*...So we started off at the Mpls Station. We had two big duffel bags, two smaller ones, a carryon for food, a carryon of Raoul's crap, my purse and Raoul's purse. We had everything we needed for camping besides food and water (and the mallet we forgot to bring), and it was so heavy we could barely carry it. When our bus was called for boarding, we put our non carryon bags in the bottom of the bus then got on. There were only about 4 other people on the bus, so we each took a window seat, and we were like "this seems pretty nice". After we left Mpls, the bus would stop at little mini greyhound stations and it started filling up, eventually one of us gave up our window seat and we sat next to each other. Once we got out of the suburbs we didn't pick up so many people and stopped periodically at fast food places and gas stations. We had some junk food but eventually we were hungry for real food...But the horrible thing was that there was no real food... I don't really remember things too well after that.. I remember being really hungry and going to gas stations that only had old stale ham and cheese sandwiches. Then early in the morning in Iowa, having not slept for at least one day, we found Hell. It was a Mc Donald's. They were only serving breakfast food at the time, I ordered a egg Mc muffin and hoped that it was not disgusting and it would end my suffering. It was not good. It tasted like the egg was cooked in motor oil, and the muffin was gross it the normal mcd's way.. And they were playing brittany spears on the radio. then Ricky marten. We went down through Iowa to Nebraska, then Wyoming. ..I can't remember muck about Nebraska. .We stopped somewhere Cheyenne I think. The bus were were supposed to transfer to wasn't coming when our schedule said it would. So we had to wait there for 3 hours in this little boring bus station. Sometime during the three hours I started eating a piece of beef jerky. While I was eating it some guy came up and said "Is that pepperoni?" I was confused and told him it was Beef jerky and wondered why he could not figure that out. And then there was the endless boredom of Wyoming. ..There is just nothing there. You look out the window and see 1,000 cattle, no trees, no hills, no buildings. For hundreds of miles this went on, I'm not sure if theirs more than 5 people living in that state. Next was Utah. ..We had been anticipating fear of Mormons, but after the boredom of wyoming, we we like "Duhhhh.. .look its a lake its something" and "have you noticed there are no squirrels here?. I remember seeing a restaurant named after the arbys star that was not arbys ..It was so confusing. ..I hadn't slept since we had left, or eaten much. We had to change buses at the salt lake city station, It was really busy and we were very confused as to what line to stand in to get on the bus, and they kept changing the lines around ...but we did get the right one eventually. The only thing I can remember after that before we got to reno was seeing a sign that said 800 miles to reno ...we were so happy to be that close. I lied, I can vaguely remember casino/gas stations. When we finally got to the Reno station we called our parents to confirm that we were still alive. I had not slept in 4 days. We took a cab to the airport to meet our ride to the BM site. We had 21 hours before we had to meet them. we wandered the entire airport. Then the bag baby-sitter person told us that we could take a free shuttle bus to a casino, and that there was one with a good cheap buffet called the Atlantis. So we took the bus there. It was really ocean themed inside, the buffet was about 7$. It was very good. I was so sick and hungry. ..But the food there made me better again. ..It has magic anti Mcdonalds powers. I will make sure I go there next time I go to reno. It had all kinds of food, and deserts, they had mexican, chinese food, italian food, and all kinds of food in general and all of it was good. Then it was back to the airport to share a ride with strangers to Burning man... They way back was more horrific. .but I will right that one later..
