An Exhibition in the Gallery of the Mind
Picture a corridor, disappearing in gloom.
Picture a mantle shelf, over the fire in a room.
Picture the flowers, faded out on the walls.
Picture the loneliness haunting these halls.
Picture the brasses gleaming in light.
Picture a staircase rising up, out of sight.
Picture a cello, resounding deep in the dark.
Picture the swans on the lake in the park.
Picture the fish in the depths of the lake
Picture the silence, of a babe wide awake.
Picture the stillness, taste the delight.
Picture the world as it fades out of sight.
Picture a prison, a cage of despair.
Picture a wall without bars, only bare.
Picture an island surrounded by sea.
Picture a kiss sent by you straight to me.
Picture the moon, shining golden and round.
Picture the stars, glistening high, without sound.
Picture a sunset, from a hilltop in Spain.
Picture the peacefulness, cool summer rain.
Picture the stillness, unmoving, like rocks.
Picture the colours in an artist's paintbox.
Picture the paintings hung up in his mind.
Picture the joy of the treasure he'll find.
