So he climbed the ledge and sat there
The Day The Market Crashed
flacidly contemplating the attractive
possibilities of flight; at once regarding the
ground below with furious boredom
at times peeking at the decaf that had collected
into coagulated muck at the
bottom of my mug. It mocks him
with its synthetic condomed caffeine.
It hisses, with malice curdling in its voice…
"wouldn’t it be nice to lie flat
on that flattened patch
on the surface on the planet?"
The image had such power that
for one fleeting moment his fingers tightened
around the mug, itself declaring "Hello Kitty"
in pink and yellow and bright red.
The moment was both fleeting and eternal,
reeking of laws, falling, death and things.
Good thing the concrete broke his fall. Empty Buildings
you can not name anything more anonymous
than those hands; but I sat there tossing
things back and forth in my brain----
(I belong to those eyes) of millions of
chance configurations; precious, unrepeatable
accidents whose beauty and magic
reside in the tragedy of their
impossibilities. should I travel back
and reconstruct? it is, after all, a
good night for excuses. driving along
the empty boulevard escorted by
nothing but the sound of some
someone'lungs emptying into a sax (but
my Fate, didn’t he have such
beautiful, careless eyes?) I am lulled
into unbelievable softness
that tempts me to choose, pick one
unresolved universe from the infinite
gorge of others waiting to become.
but the streets. they are empty.
nothing delays the drawing of the two.
who is to say what I have gained
or irretrievably lost when,
parked in front of some dark
building that holds all my choices,
I fished for the bill instead of
deciding; handed it over to
my Fate (with such unbelievably solemn
eyes). and I sit back waiting
for my change. teasing, he fumbles
in his pocket, stalling.
who knows of the unknowable wonders
I shall never taste? (this is your
last chance) wouldn’t you,
when confronted with this
impossibly easy choice, pick
the empty building over a full universe?
my Fate gazes at me, smiling.
with melting sadness and understanding.
I beg his forgiveness. he hears nothing. Heaven
i was walking down the street
slurping Slurpee in the heat
when i heard this rumbling beat
and its raaaaaaaaaiiiining popcorns!!
