Barenaked Ladies
Now, there's a fun band to search for online...

For the first fourteen years of my life, I listened to virtually nothing but country music. I still like the genre, but after that long with little to no variety, it was time for a change. So, I naturally gravitated toward what my friends were listening to.

In my listening to this completely new and different kind of music, I ran across a song that I really loved. A song that was upbeat, humourous, nonsensical... The song was called “Pinch Me.” And then a couple of years later, another song caught my ear: “Another Postcard.” That was when I started looking into the group.

I’ve since come to love BNL for the actual content of their music. I’ve come to think of them in terms of a more coherent They Might Be Giants – they have a variety of styles, they occasionally make sense, and they make me chuckle. A lot. Unlike TMBG, however, it is fairly easy to understand a BNL song, and the occasionally unbearably nasal quality of TMBG is not evident.

My favourite BNL songs, at the moment, are “Pinch Me,” “Testing 1, 2, 3,” "War on Drugs," and “For You,” but I really love all that I’ve heard. And “Another Postcard” has a special place in my heart because, after the first time my father heard it and I told him a little about the group, his only reaction was “They still do a lot of drugs in Canada.” Which is awesome. I really don’t know what it is about making people think I’m a nut job, but...

Barenaked Ladies is Steve Page (lead vocals and guitar), Jim Creeggan (vocals and bass), Ed Robertson (lead vocals and guitar), Kevin Hearn (vocals, guitar, keyboard, and accordion), and Tyler Stewart (vocals and drums).
