THREE-PEAT SSL CHAMPS!

 

TEHACHAPI NEWS - Closing out the season in style, the jayvee’s opened up their contest against Taft with a 12-play drive that ended in a 12-yard Ben Johnson touchdown run en route to a 27-0 shutout win against Taft in their season finale.

 
With the win, Tehachapi (8-1-1; 5-0 SSL) won the South Sequoia League championship for the third straight year.
 
Blake Waters led the Braves with 117 yards on nine carries and two completions for 13 yards. Complimenting Waters in the running game was Ty Curry with 85 yards on 13 carries and Barry Jones churning out 77 yards on nine attempts, with both backs also scoring on touchdown runs.
 
Calvin Herman also had a rushing score, finishing the night with 54 yards on 16 carries and a catch for 16 yards.
 
Steven Cross also had a completion in the game for 47 yards on halfback option pass from Waters, and Dalton Scaggs went 3-3 for 29 yards at quarterback and also connecting on three PATs.
 
On defense, David Carter finished with six tackles, followed closely by Michael Llamas Kiefer Fincher and Bobby Sharp with five tackles each.
 
Michael Contreras, Blake Panek, Andrew Garber, Joseph Blewett, Herman and Waters all had four tackles apiece, while Panek, Waters and Herman had quarterback sacks and Steven Cross had an interception.
 
The victory marked the sixth-straight win for the Braves and second shutout of the season.
 
Overall, the Braves program has won 19 league championships since 1965 and six league titles since 2002.
