WE ARE CONCERNED...

THAT Rose Sanders has let the vile and acerbic loser Johnnie Leashore back on HATE RADIO 105.3. We had hoped that Ms. Sanders was really taking a step toward unity and peace in the community by taking the hater off of the 50,000 watts of HATE, but now we hear he is back on the air. What we want to know is WHEN WILL LEASHORE PAY BACK THE MORE THAN $40,000 HE STOLE FROM THE PEOPLE OF Selma by taking money he did not deserve from the waterworks? PAY THE MONEY BACK JOHNNIE!!

THAT THE Board of Directors of the Selma Housing Authority has given Director Lola Rogers a vote of confidence in a closed door meeting last week. In the spirit of fairness, we have posted the response of Board Chairman, George Needham, to our earlier article about Mrs. Rogers and alleged abuses of power and alleged wrong doings at the Housing Authority. ANYTIME ANYONE WANTS TO POST A RESPONSE TO ANYTHING WE PRINT, WE WILL POST IT AS SENT TO US.

Our opinion is that the Selma Housing Authority Board members, George Needham, Nancy Smith, Annie Montgomery, Betty Finlay and James Spicer, will have "egg on their face" if they continue to support Ms. Rogers and her actions. Here are a couple of more to which we would welcome an explanation or response from the SHA Board. First, a minor issue, but which shows the "management style" of Ms. Rogers. Almost daily, Ms. Rogers goes out back to smoke and while there she calls the receptionist to bring her a Coke. One would think Ms. Rogers could take her Coke with her and not treat Authority employees as if they are servents.

A more pressing question is what were Housing Authority trucks doing at the home of Housing Authority maintenance supervisor, Raymond Wesley, on Saturday, March 27th? We had a report that 4 Authority trucks were at his house. By the time our man arrived to verify the report, there were only 2 trucks at Wesley's house. We did not know SHA personnel took their trucks home with them but perhaps they do, but we do wonder why either 2 or 4 trucks were at Wesley's house on Saturday. If someone will send us an explanation for this, we will post it.

We are also concerned about the suit by Stovall Roofing against Lubin Enterprises, which we are told was caused by the interference of Ms. Rogers. It seems that Lubin was the low bidder to do work for the Housing Authority and subbed out the roofing to Stovall Roofing. We understand that Ms. Rogers then told Lubin that Stovall could not do the roofing and that it had to be done by the local minority contractor, who it turned out was not qualified to do the work. Lubin then told Stovall it could not have the roofing contract and Stovall filed suit against Lubin. We are certain Ms. Rogers' part in this will come out at trial.

We want to assure Mr. Needham and the SHA Board Members THAT THEY HAVE MORE THAN A FEW EMPLOYEES who would like to see a new director at SHA.

THAT the Mayor and majority of City Council members can not make up their minds to close the streets requested by Bush Hog and save almost 300 jobs for our city. This has gone on far too long and has become a divisive issue in the community because our city leaders appear afraid to do the right thing and keep jobs in the city. We do appreciate the fact that 3 members of the Council, Keith, Williamson and Newton, have consistently voted to close the streets while other council members seem unwilling to make a decision. Although we continue to support Mayor Evans, we want to tell him again that HE CAN NOT PLEASE EVERYONE ON EVERY ISSUE and that every issue can not be compromised. If we do not close these streets and Bush Hog leaves, don't expect any other business to want to locate here!

THAT the Selma City School Board wants to RAISE PROPERTY TAXES TO PAY FOR THEIR NEW SCHOOL. Who is responsible for wanting a $31-$33 million school when the money was not available?? Who starts to build something that expensive without having the financing available??? To propose a property tax in Selma with unemployment at more than 20% and in the midst of the worst recession in 30 years is preposterous! We hope the City Council has more common sense than to be involved in this effort. This is just another issue to keep the city divided.
