POLICE DEPARTMENT VEHICLES IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE REPAIRS

Compromising the condition of public safety (police) vehicles is compromising the safety of each and every citizen in the police jurisdictiton of Selma. It has been brought to the attention of this site by city employees that a serious situation exists concerning the lack of maintenance and the condition of the Selma Police's Deptartment fleet of vehicles.

A police source has informed this site that maintenance, specifically oil changes, is not being performed but is being charged to the budget line for maintenance expenditures. Many police vehicles run 24 hours a day, year around. Each vehicle requires an oil change every 5,000 miles or every week to 10 days.

This would constitute approximately 35 oil changes per vehicle per year. Each oil change would cost approximately $35.00 for oil and labor. For only 10 vehicles, this would be about $12,000 to $15,000 each year.

A city source has informed this website that the oil changes are NOT being performed and that other routine maintenance such as air filters, hoses, and brakes are also being negleted. WHERE IS THIS MONEY GOING?

We are told that police vehicles are wearing out prematurely because of this lack of routine maintenance. It is said that the vehicles are in serious need of repair and will require extensive attention by a facility other than the city shop originated and supervised by Mayor Perkins and Chief Martin! This lack of maintenance is jeopardizing the safety of police officers and citizens of Selma.

BUT DO NOT WORRY!! A police source has told this site that a NEW CAR ia always available for Chief Martin to DRIVE BACK AND FORTH TO HIS HOME IN BIBB COUNTY, WHERE HE LIVES. You can meet him many mornings on Highway 14 coming to Selma.

THESE ARE MORE REASONS FOR THE IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF POLICE CHIEF MARTIN!
