CRENSHAW, CHARLOTTE GRIFFETH, KRYSTAL DOZIER, VENTER, AND THEIR GROUP RIP OFF CITY TAXPAYERS FOR $25,000 TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C.
3-8-07

City Council members Bennie Ruth Crenshaw, Janie Venter, and Sam Randolph are off on another junket at taxpayer's expense, but this time they are not going alone. Total cost to Selma taxpayers will be about $25,000 for the Crenshaw entourage of 13 people to go to Washington D.C., March 10-14th.

The cost to taxpayers for the Council Members Crenshaw, Venter, and Randolph will be approximately $9,000. Crenshaw is also taking 8 Youth in Government teenagers with her. WE WONDER HOW THE OTHER 35 YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT TEENS FEEL ABOUT NOT BEING CHOSEN BY THE QUEEN TO GO TO WASHINGTON. But then, Crenshaw probably selected those who would be most useful in her re-election campaign next year! The approximate cost for the 8 teens to go to Washington is another $10,000.

But the biggest rip-off of all is who Crenshaw has chosen to take a free trip to Washington taxpayer's expense, to be chaperones for the group. If you were selecting chaperones for 8 teenagers, wouldn't you think a parent or two or even a teacher might be a good chaperone? We would, BUT NOT CRENSHAW AND VENTER!

The City's $60,000 a year Community Development Director, Charlotte Griffeth, and one of her highly paid workers in the Community Development Office, Krystal Dozier, will be chaperones for the Washington junket. Of course, all of their expenses WILL also be paid by the City, to the tune of about $6,000.

And we are sure, with Valeria Jones as Personnel Director, GRIFFETH AND DOZIER WILL NOT EVEN HAVE TO TAKE DAYS OFF OR TAKE LEAVE TO MAKE THE TRIP. They will probably receive their enormous salaries as well as the free trip! What a rip-off, but what do you expect from Crenshaw and Venter?

With the City's finances deteriorating every month, wouldn't you think Mayor Perkins would have the backbone to stop ridiculous expenses such as a trip for 13 people to Washington costing us $25,000?
