The Selma City Government is regressing into political and financial chaos. Council members Crenshaw, Leashore, Martin, Randolph, and Venter stole from the taxpayers by deliberately staying away from the City Council Meeting. IT WAS CRENSHAW AND LEASHORE WHO MADE THE MOTIONS FOR THE COUNCIL TO CHANGE ITS MEETING TIME TO DECEMBER 18th. Martin, Randolph, and Venter voted for the Crenshaw-Leashore motions.

We appeciate Dr. Williamson reading the Crenshaw-Leashore actions of November 27th on the radio. Our tape of the Council session shows that the minutes of November 27th say:

"A motion was made by Councilman Leashore and seconded by Councilman Crenshaw to approve said council meeting...During further discussion, a motion was then made by Councilman Leashore and seconded by Councilman Crenshaw to suspend the rules to change the Council meeting to December 18th at 5pm."

Crenshaw, Leashore, Martin, Randolph, and Venter were actually responsible for the meeting being held on December 18th; yet, THE COWARDS FAILED TO SHOW UP TO DISCUSS THE INCOMPETENCE OF THE POLICE CHIEF AND HOW TO REPLACE HIM!

Although the Crenshaw Block and Martin DELIBERATELY did not come to the Council meeting, you can be sure they WILL show up:

*To collect the $1,250.00 paycheck they get each month from the city...and Martin gets an additional $100.00 monthly for doing nothing as President Pro-Tem of the Council.

*For EACH TRIP BY PLANE, BOAT, OR TRAIN AT THE TAXPAYERS EXPENSE, including the latest adventure to the gambling center of Reno, Nevada. (only Martin, of the cowardly 5, did not go to Reno)

*To collect ILLEGAL salaries from the Water Works, including over $19,000.00 per year for Crenshaw and nearly $10,000.00 each for Leashore and Randolph. These illegal salaries are a main reason our water rates are high and getting higher!!

THESE 5 COUNCIL MEMBERS DO NOTHING BUT COST THE TAXPAYERS OF SELMA MONEY AND SHOULD BE REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!

The only positive thing about the cowardly 5 neglecting their duty to come to Council meetings was that they could not vote to approve the Mayor's plan to BORROW $350,000.00 to buy more equipment. With Selma's population shrinking and THE CITY HAVING THE BIGGEST BUDGET IN THE 185 YEAR HISTORY OF SELMA, one would think the city would not have to borrow money to buy equipment. However, we believe the City has a serious cash flow problem and that Mayor Perkins can not operate the City on the more than $18,000,000.00 budgeted for this fiscal year!!

We heard Councilman Williamson point out that Sales Tax Revenues, which make up 60-65% of the City Budget, HAVE BEEN DOWN 5 OF THE LAST 6 MONTHS COMPARED TO THE SAME MONTHS LAST YEAR. This November, Sales Tax Revenues were down almost $160,000.00 from November of 2005. Slowly but surely, the Mayor and his minions on the City Council ARE MOVING THIS CITY TOWARD FINANCIAL RUIN!!!!!
