The City's IT Director, Bruce Williams, does not live in Selma, but stays during the week at the Traveler's Inn. The first week Bruce was in town, his car was stolen. Welcome to River City, Bruce!

The new Police Chief has been in town only a few months. Already, the windows in his personal vehicles have been broken out at his home. Welcome to Selma, Chief. We hope you bring the out of control crime in this city under control. It is obvious that Mayor Perkins and his former chief Jimmy Martin never had crime control as one of their priorities.

CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS: We have to comment on a few of them. (1) Glenda Deese, the $12,500 liaison at $50 per hour between chief Martin and Chief Riley gave $250 to Mayor Perkins. That sounds like a good deal for her - picking up $12,500 from the city and only giving $250 to Perkins. We wonder if she has gotten another Cadillac! (2) Kobi Little gave money to Angela Benjamin. No wonder a TrustBuild officer was delivering her campaign signs. (3) Johnnie Leashore gave money to Kelvin Williams running in Ward 4. Wonder who Perkins supports. The street committee says his candidate in Ward 4 is Kelvin Williams. (4) Charles Hise, who gave $5,000 to Perkins has now given $2,000 to Perkins flunky, Sam Randolph. Hise, who is part owner of Park Place Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center should be as generous to his wife of more than 40 years since he has spent 7 years trying to divorce her, but not give her enough money to eat on. What a guy! (5) We notice that Caston Long of Birmingham gave money to Perkins. They once did the city audit for Perkins. Just the price of doing business in Selma, we suppose.

THANKS TO JEAN MARTIN, Perkins got his way to have the voting machines remain in City Hall's basement the night before the election. With the City Council expected to vote 5-4 to move the machines out of city hall - Martin announced that she favored leaving them in the basement. Then Geraldine Allen said she also would vote to leave them in the basement. In the end, only Williamson and Cain voted to move them out of city hall. We are urging residents to call Mrs. Martin and Dr. Allen and ask that they bring this matter up for reconsideration at the next council meeting. THIS ELECTION MUST NOT BE STOLEN AS WE BELIEVE THE 2004 ELECTION WAS STOLEN.

In our opinion, the City Council voted to reward incompetence Monday night when it voted to retroactively pay City Clerk Lois Williams $1,800 for being the Absentee Manager during the Bond Election last February. Only Williamson and Cain voted against this rip-off of the taxpayers. Ms. Williams continues to be the city hall pet who can not be questioned even though she told a flat out lie to the city council about the voting machine memory pacs. She stated that the pacs thought once lost for which the city was charged $6,000, were found and returned to the company. The company refunded the city's $6,000. The truth is 17 of these pacs were NEVER RETURNED TO THE COMPANY. We believe these were the memory pacs used to steal the 2004 city election. These pacs still have not been found and returned to the company. WE WONDER IF THEY WILL BE USED TO STEAL THIS CITY ELECTION.

A hit dog hollers! Councilman Johnnie Leashore continues to defend his action in taking some $25,000 as Chairman of the Water Board and Councilwoman Crenshaw taking some $19,600 a year. Leashore has gotten himself elected Chairman and Crenshaw elected as Secretary-Treasurer. If they were not officers of the Board, they would get a mere $800, although the City Council has never approved more than $350 a month, except for Vick's salary. On Viewpoint Wednesday, Councilman Cain made a brilliant point about Leashore trying to justify his and Crenshaw's salaries by saying former officers made the same salary. As Cain pointed out, former officers WERE NOT CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS. Former city council members HAVE NEVER came close to getting what these two now receive. In our opinion, Leashore and Crenshaw have clearly used their office as council members for personal gain by being officers on the Water Board rather than members as former council members were. We call it a rip-off while they raise our water and sewer rates. The way to stop the rip-off of the taxpayers is to vote them out of office onn August 26th and they will be off of the Water Board also. Otherwise, we have to suffer with them on the Water Board until October 1, 2010. WE again urge everyone to contact the Attorney-General and ask him to take action against Leashore, Crenshaw, and Randolph to recover our money!
