STEAL WE RISE
7-25-08

Instead of doing the right thing and paying back the money they have taken from the Water Board, Leashore, Crenshaw, and Randolph seemed to have adopted Perkins' motto with a slight change in spelling, STEAL WE RISE. The State Examiners say Leashore received $59,609 when he should have received only $15,400. Crenshaw received $70,563 when she should have received only $15,400. Randolph received $26,400 when he should have received only $11,550, and Perkins received $92,833 with no documentation that his salary had been set by anyone.

STEAL WE RISE! Leave it to Attorney Pettaway to try to explain it all away for his employers and his brother-in-law, the Mayor. We are told that Pettaway is growing weary of having to cover for and take orders from Leashore and Crenshaw, but that he needs the money the Water Board is paying him - an unfortunate quandry for the attorney to be in.

While Board members and the Mayor run for re-election, poor people, most of them African-Americans, are struggling to pay outrageous water and sewer bills. Remember that this crowd just raised water rates 2.5% on June 1, and that they had previously raised sewer rates 50%. We wonder how much longer African-Americans in Selma are going to put up with our leaders getting from $60,000 to $92,000 in salaries while we get higher and higher water rates. It does appear to be a case of STEAL WE RISE for our elected leaders.

The way to get Crenshaw, Leashore, and Randolph off of the Water Board is to VOTE THEM OFF OF THE CITY COUNCIL. If they are not elected to the Council, they are automatically OFF OF THE WATER BOARD. A new Board could clean up the mess at the water company, appoint a new Superintendent, and lower our water and sewer rates.

We urge everyone to write the Attorney-General and urge him to take action to recover this money from these overpaid city officials. His address is:
