HERE GOES THE SELMA TIMES-JOURNAL....AGAIN
6-22-07

Our pleas for our community newspaper to present an ACCURATE picture, not a falsely positive picture, continue to fall on deaf ears.

CONSIDER THESE TWO STORIES:

(1) PERFORMING ARTS CENTER BURGLARIZED WEDNESDAY NIGHT. Located across the street from the Centre for Commerce and EDA, the Performing Arts Center in Selma was broken into Wednesday night. TAKEN WERE KEYS TO MANY CITY BUILDINGS, IMPORTANT PAPERS, AND OTHER ITEMS.

(2) Global Security to expand and bring in 40 new jobs and invest $1 million AT SELFIELD.

WHICH STORY APPEARED IN THE TIMES-JOURNAL WITH 2 PICTURES? Not the break in at the Performing Arts Center! WE ARE HAPPY THAT 40 MORE JOBS ARE COMING TO DALLAS COUNTY AT SELFIELD.

But we continue to be dismayed at our community newspaper because OUR OPINION IS THAT THE STJ HAS MADE A CONSCIOUS DECISION NOT TO PRINT news which portrays AN ACCURATE PICTURE OF THE OUT OF CONTROL CRIME IN THE CITY OF SELMA.

We believe thinking people can see that the growth and progress in the area is being made in DALLAS COUNTY WHILE SELMA CONTINUES TO WALLOW IN CRIME, DISARRAY IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, CHAOS IN THE CITY FINANCE DEPARTMENT (read the Auditor's Management Letter - WHICH THE STJ HAS NEVER MENTIONED).

The burglary at the Performing Arts Center could jeopardize the security of other city buildings AND CERTAINLY WILL COST THE CITY MONEY TO HAVE LOCKS CHANGED ON CITY BUILDINGS.

And while we are talking about jobs, WHEN WILL THE STJ MENTION the 200 people laid off at Bush Hog last Friday. Tell us if these were seasonal layoffs or permanent, BUT PLEASE SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
