Since 1993, Hank Sandeers has directed MORE THAN $10 MILLION DOLLARS from the State Educational Trust Fund to organizations founded, run, or controlled by his wife, Rose. Each year the legislature designates a certain amount of money for each local school board to use to help "at risk" students keep up in school. Years ago, Sanders inserted into the Education Bill a provision that each year 20% of the at risk funds that every school board in the state received would have to be given to COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS by local school boards for at risk programs. He specifically put in the bill that his wife's 21st century organization was one of the groups which could receive at risk funds from local boards.
For years now, 21st Century and many other "fronts" formed by Rose, Malika, and their friends have been getting at risk funds from NEARLY EVERY SCHOOL SYSTEM IN THE BLACK BELT-by now, adding up to millions of dollars of state money. FINALLY, SOMEONE-Debra Howard-has had the backbone to challenge and speak out against this misuse of taxpayer money to support the Sanders' empire. When the Selma City School System gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to one of Rose's "front" organizations, FAME, that was more than Ms. Howard could bear. She has turned over to the FBI and other authorities, we hope, documentation of this misuse of taxpayer dollars.
FOLLOWING is a copy of one check for $75,000.00 made to the Selma CIty School System which was passed through the system to Rose's organization. There are also copies of two of Rose's front organizations which get at risk money. One is F.A.M.E. (Fostering Academics Motivating Excellence) and another is R.I.S.E. (Restoring Initiative and Student Excellence). THERE ARE A NUMBER OF OTHER SUCH FRONT GROUPS WHICH are used to get money from school systems throughout the Black Belt. Apparently, NO REPORTS have to be given to School Systems about how the money is used or what is accomplished with the money. We have seen the evidence that Ms. Howard has and it is compelling about this misuse of state funds. We can only hope the federal authorities will put a stop to what we consider a gigantic "rip-off" of Alabama taxpayers by the Sanders and their family.
We wonder if the federal investigation had anything to do with Senator Sanders announcing that he would not seek re-election. We wonder if some agreement has already been made which will keep people from being indicted./ WE COMMEND DEBRA HOWARD FOR HAVING THE COURAGE TO EXPOSE THE SANDERS CLAN. Perhaps, after almost 20 years of using the Educational Trust Fund for their organizations, the end is near.
While we are on the subject of Ms. Howard, we encourage everyone to vote FOR the following candidates for School Board who are NOT controlled or endorsed by Sanders, Crenshaw, Leashore and Perkins:
