AN OPEN LETTER TO POLICE OFFICER EVELYN GHANT
10-5-07

Dear Officer Ghant:

We are aware that you do not wish to pursue the harassment charge against Councilman Reid Cain, but that Perkins and Martin are putting immense pressure on you to do so. Perkins and Martin do not care about you and they do not want justice. All they want is to use you to embarrass Councilman Cain because he has stood up to them.

If Councilman Cain has offended you by any of his actions, you should go to him privately and tell him what he has done. We know him well enough to know that he would do the right thing and apologize.

We know that when Perkins and Martin get through using you-as they have used numerous women-they will toss you aside. You have been in the Police Department long enough to know how people are used and then forgotten. In the end, you will discover that Perkins and Martin are not your friends.

The prospect of a trial is not very positive. You know that Cain's lawyers are going to put you under oath and ask you about all of your conversations with Martin and Perkins about this matter. The truth about them will be brought out. These kinds of trials are not pleasant for anyone who has to testify. Do you want to go through that just to satisfy Perkins and Martin's hatred for Councilman Cain?

We urge you to keep your integrity and self-respect. Is any job-or promised promotion-worth losing your self-respect? Follow your conscience and have this matter dropped.
