ANOTHER NAIL IN SELMA'S COFFIN

The Alabama Private School Association announced yesterday that it was moving its STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP out of Selma to Montgomery. For more than 20 years, the AISA championship games have been held in Selma over a 3-4 day period bringing 12 teams from all over Alabama to our city and bringing tens of thousands of dollars to the city by out of towners staying in our hotels, eating at our restuarants, buying gas, etc.
The distressing part of this move is NOT ONLY THE MONEY LOST, BUT THAT NOONE IN CITY HALL SEEMED TO KNOW ABOUT THE DECISION TO MOVE THE TOURNAMENT, NOR DID ANYTHING TO TRY TO PREVENT THE MOVE.
Of course, the AISA had all the nice things to say about their 20 years in Selma and what a great job Coach Reese always did (WE AGREE WITH THAT), but our sources tell us that lack of better facilities AS WELL AS SAFETY CONCERNS ABOUT SELMA played some part in the decision.
With the daily robberies, shootings, drug deals gone bad, and crime out of control in Selma, WE CAN UNDERSTAND ANYONE'S CONCERNS ABOUT SAFETY IN THIS CITY. Just this week, some 30 vehicles on Water Avenue had their tires slashed, there was a shootout between rival gangs hospitalizing 2 and resulting in 5 arrests, as well as a grocery robbery, AND THESE ARE JUST THE CRIMES WHICH WERE REPORTED IN THE PRESS. ALL WHILE POLICE OFFICERS USED NEW POLICE CARS TO RIDE TRUSTBUILD WORKERS AROUND THE CITY AND ACT AS ARMED ESCORT FOR THESE OVERPAID, GLORIFIED SOCIAL ENGINEERS.
AND ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE, Cable Rates are going up again on March 1 and WATER RATES HAVE ALREADY BEEN SET UP TO GO UP YEARLY FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS...We have to pay Leashore $25,500.00 to be chairman of the Water Board and Crenshaw $19,600.00 to be secretary of the Water Board plus their $14,500.00 a year Council Salaries - have to take care of our PUBLIC SERVANTS!!
HOW MANY MORE NAILS ARE GOING TO BE DRIVEN INTO SELMA'S COFFIN BEFORE IT IS FINALLY PUT IN THE GROUND?
