DON'T DO IT MAYOR PERKINS

We had hoped that Mayor Perkins had learned from his mistake of appointing a Seargent (Jimmy Martin) to be Police Chief; however, it appears the Mayor is about to make another mistake by appointing Morris Polion of the Akron, Alabama (Hale County) Police Department as ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE IN SELMA.
Chief Polion, who is Chief over a 2 man police force in Akron, would be over nearly 60 police department personnel in Selma. There is no doubt that Jimmy Martin CAN NOT run the Selma Police Department, but why pass over numerous individuals in the SPD who are more qualified to be an Assistant Chief than the young Mr. Polion from Hale County? Putting AN OUTSIDER in charge of Veteran Selma Police officers continues the recipe for disaster which has plagued the department since Perkins became Mayor and Martin became Chief.
In the latest personnel disaster at the SPD, Chief Martin has sent memos to certain women personnel and some officers telling them they can not talk with one another because he knows they have been talking about him. This follows his ridiculous procedure in which he forbade certain personnel from going into the Public Safety Building unless they were escorted by one of his chosen flunkies. It is a wonder that anyone can work in such paranoid conditions as Martin and Perkins have created.
