MORE OUTRAGES FROM THE PERKINS-MARTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT

The citizens of Selma should be outraged that due to the shenanigans of former Police Chief Jimmy Martin, James Perkins, and certain police officers as well as the INCOMPETENCE OF THE CITY ATTORNEY JIMMY NUNN, THE CITY IS HAVING TO PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO TWO SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS AND THEIR LAWYER.
In the arrest of suspected drug dealers Aaron Harris and Desi Beavers in July, 2006, CITY POLICE CONFISCATED TWO CARS AND CASH. Eventually the Circuit Court ordered the City, represented by Jimmy Nunn to return the cars and cash to Harris and Beavers BECAUSE JIMMY NUNN AND D.A. MICHAEL JACKSON DID NOT MOVE TO HAVE THE ITEMS CONDEMNED AND TURNED OVER TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. The Selma Police Department under Jimmy Martin and the Perkins administration NEVER MENTIONED THIS TO THE CITY COUNCIL.
WITHOUT TELLING THE COUNCIL, Perkins, Martin, Nunn and certain police officers returned more than $1200 to Aaron Harris USING OTHER DRUG MONEY WHICH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAD ON HAND. Perkins and Nunn never made this known to the City Council. Was this part of the MISSING MONEY THAT Cain and Williamson kept asking about, and supposedly Perkins had turned the matter over to the ABI.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE CONFISCATED CARS COULD NOT BE FOUND. Police officers tell various stories: the cars were sold for parts, the cars were compacted-NO ONE FROM Perkins to Martin to Nunn to Cynthia Mitchell knows what happened to the cars. Apparently there is no bill of sale for the cars, no passing of the title. THEY HAVE JUST DISAPPEARED-if you believe the holdovers from the Perkins administration in City Hall and in the Police Department.
BEACUSE THE CARS WERE NOT RETURNED, Circuit Judge Jones was about to throw Jimmy Nunn's butt in jail for contempt when Mayor Evans intervened and asked for a few more days to sort this out. Now Judge Jones has ordered the City to pay Harris and Beavers and their attorney enough money to cover the cost OF THE CARS PLUS ATTORNEY'S FEES...thousands of taxpayer dollars which the city does not have.
WE URGE THE CITY COUNCIL NOT TO APPROVE PAYING THIS MONEY AND LET THE JUDGE THROW NUNN IN JAIL FOR A FEW DAYS AS WELL AS JIMMY MARTIN AND A FEW OF SELMA'S FINEST-PERHAPS THAT WILL REFRESH THEIR MEMORIES ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CARS AND WHO GOT THE MONEY WHEN THE CARS WERE SOLD-WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
