MAYOR JAMES PERKINS' LACK OF LEADERSHIP ABILITY
10-21-06
Mayor Perkins reminds us of a dog sniffing one pile of manure after another; he
just goes from one spot to another! CONSIDER, the Mayor's actions in just the past 2
years. First, he was going to reinvent city government and presented a list of some 18
strategies to save money. THAT FAILED MISERABLY, AND EVERY CITY DEPARTMENT IS NOW
SPENDING MORE MONEY THAN BEFORE IT WAS REINVENTED, MERGED, ETC.
Next, the Mayor was going to be the savior of the poor with free health care at the Good
Samaritan Hospital. The hospital has proven to be a white elephant for the city as
most all of the paying tenants HAVE OR ARE MOVING OUT. Have you heard anything about the
Good Sam lately? The Mayor took a real hit on the Good Sam when his chosen girl to run the
project, Bridgette Mills, was on the jury that recently awarded 310 THOUSAND CITY
DOLLARS to what a former SPD Officer called "thugs".
THEN, the Mayor was going to save the St. James Hotel, which was actually to bail out his
political supporter and friend out of a financial quagmire, because the hotel has been losing
money for years. Supposedly, some friend of the Mayor's from California was going to save the
St. James, do wonderful things there including AN INTERNATIONAL PEACE CENTER. That idea
went bust and we hear no more about the St. James other than the occasional shootings in the
area on weekends.
Having failed in his re-inventing government, Good Sam project, and St. James project, the
next project the Mayor moved to was TAKING OVER THE SELMA CITY SCHOOL BOARD AND BUILDING A
NEW SCHOOL WHILE INCREASING EVERYONE'S PROPERTY TAXES.
*THIS AFTER PAYING HIS SUPPORTER AND FRIEND $1 MILLION FOR ACRES OF LAND FOR WHICH THE
FRIEND PAID ONLY $540 THOUSAND A FEW SHORT YEARS AGO!*
If Perkins continues his trend of moving from one pile of manure to the next, in a few
months, the new school project will not be heard of again, and he will be off on some other
Pie in the Sky.
What we are seeing is someone out of touch with the economic reality of this area, who thinks
he is Mayor of Palm Beach, and who wants to run everything in sight. Let's see...city
government, water works, hotel, hospital, city schools....what pile of manure will he sniff
next???
