BUSINESS SUFFERS UNDER PERKINS AS CITY'S SALES TAX RECEIPTS PLUMMET
2-19-07

Our sources in the City Finance Department have given us the following informations which shows that businesses in Selma are suffering an unprecedented drop in sales and that the City Sales Tax figures have decreased 4 months in a row compared to last year and that in 6 of the last 7 months sales tax revenues have decreased compared to the previous year.

The $248,800.47 decrease in Sales Tax Revenues since October 1st indicates that Selma businesses have taken in approximately $2.5 million LESS than they did a year ago. Each 9 cent drop in sales tax indicates $1 less spent in the City.

We attribute the decline in sales tax and the almost $2.5 million DECREASE in sales by City bussinesses to (1) The continuing decline of Selma's population (2) Productive people continue to move out of the City due to crime and the lack of leadership by the Perkins administration (3) An influx of low income citizens who do not have as much disposable income to spend (4) The lack of quality clothing stores, family restaurants, and courteous sales people in many local businesses (5) The much more attractive businesses and shopping atmosphere in cities such as Prattville and even parts of Montgomery.

OUR OPINION IS THAT AS LONG AS PERKINS AND THE CRENSHAW/LEASHORE CARTEL CONTROL CITY GOVERNMENT AND A FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE POLICE CHIEF REMAINS CHIEF, the factors which are causing people to leave Selma to live and shop elsewhere, the pattern WILL NOT CHANGE and the City will CONTINUE to decline. We hope that we are wrong in our prediction because we do want to see Selma progress. If you have ideas about how we can reverse this decline in business and sales tax revenue, please e-mail us. We would love to hear it!
