Despite Robin Hood, CFBISD is a strong, successful district. But, let’s face it local funds can only stretch so far. I will continue to encourage our state legislators to provide adequate funding to fulfill our district’s needs. I will also be active in working with businesses, organizations and individual members of our community to find additional support for our schools. •Next to parents, teachers are the most valuable asset in our children’s lives. In order for CFBISD to be a desirable, positive environment where both teachers and students thrive and excel, we need to continue to attract and retain the highest quality teachers. I would continue to support competitive salaries, and stipends for teachers with specialized education such as master’s degrees or certified bilingual. I would also support the best benefits package we could provide. •Again, each child is unique. While one child may require tutoring to be on track with reading, another may excel academically. My goal is to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met by the continuation of programs including special education, Gifted & Talented, English Language Learners, etc. •From talking with teachers, I believe that the greatest obstacle is the time taken away from instruction when students interfere with the learning or safety of others. I would ensure that a character education program is implemented beginning in kindergarten. Character education teaches skills such as cooperation, responsibility and integrity which are vital to becoming a successful learner. It also gives students the self-confidence needed to make independent choices and avoid peer pressure. •The number of children who do not stay in or succeed in school continues to be a tremendous concern. I will work toward helping our children reach their full potential as future residents and leaders of our community. With a strong community/parent/school partnership, I believe we can accomplish these goals!
