EMPLOYMENT RECORD AND MAIN ACTIVITIES September 2003 to present Nedworc : Free lance Consultant on Rural Water & Sanitation Missions to Burkina Faso, Niger, Brazil and Kenya, for project support in Water and Sanitation, especially to promote low cost sustainable hand pump technology, suitable for local production and low cost house hold water filters to improve the quality of drinking water at home. 2001 – 2003 Co-ordinator Rural Water Development Programme, Nyanza Province, Western Kenya Responsible for the overall management and implementation of the RWD Programme based in Kisii, West Kenya. Yearly budget over 500.000 US$. The program has four field-offices in the Nyanza Province and employed over 50 people. Specific duties included: • Autochtonisation and transformation of the Programme and WatSan services, to a sustainable and self supporting local Rural Water Development Programme. The program has been active since 1985 and realised over 1500 water points, 300 rainwater harvesting systems and 4000 latrines in Rural Communities and small towns in low income areas in the Nyanza Province, West Kenya. The project activities comprised: “Community Mobilisation and Participation, Public Health, construction of spring-protection, dug-wells, boreholes and rainwater harvesting systems and training for maintenance”. The job function included intensive co-operation with local and National Government and NGO's in the Water & Sanitation sector in West Kenya, especially with NETWAS International in Nairobi. Specific recent RWD project activities includes implementation of pilot projects of new low cost drilling techniques and low cost, locally made sustainable handpumps, easy to use household water storage and water treatment (ceramic filter) systems, including (crushed burned bones) filter systems to remove fluoride in drinking water and innovative approaches to promote rainwater harvesting from slopes.
