daigestive system
The digestive system
Digestion is the breaking down of food into simpler substance to be carried in the blood body cells. This process is both mechanical and chemical. The mechanical portion involves chewing mashing and breaking food into smaller pieces. The chemical portion involves changing food into simpler substances by digesting enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that affect the rate of many blood processes. Digestive enzymes speed up the break down of food. Many enzymes are produced in the body.
Functions of digestive system
The digestive system performs three different functions
• The first is digestion the physical and chemical break down of foods into smaller pieces.
• The second is absorption the passage of digestive food from the digestive tract into the circulatory system.
• The third is elimination the expulsion of undigested food or body wastes.
Structure of digestive system
Digestion take place gastrointestinal tract, which includes the moth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine.
The mouth and the teeth
Food enters the gastrointestinal tract through the moth, which is lined with many nerve endings that respond to heat, cold, pan, and pressure. The mouth is the only part of digestive system that has this sensitivity.
What happens when you take a bite of pizza hamburger? The teeth and the tongue make the first construct. The primary function of teeth is to break the food into smaller pieces .This process of chewing called mastication, prepares food to be swallowed.
