The Tale of My Life and the Magic
Paintbrush
Begun
in 1999, I wrote it as an alternative to that journal we were required
to write as an assignment for class. By the end of the year I had
written an entire copy of the novella in a composition book. From
2000-2003 I worked on typing it into the computer. I can safely say it
has remained untouched and unedited as an example of my work at a sixth
grade
level, so if it stinks, that's my excuse.
Eleanor: A
Tale of
Love and Pickles
I wrote this the following year for
a contest for the Chicago
Tribune that demanded a text under 500 words (the first twenty
or so had already been provided) for extra credit in class. In truth, I
was reluctant to enter it, but my friend, Kathryn, always aware of what
the public wants, persuaded me to send it nonetheless. I thank her now.
I shared first prize. (Kathryn's tale also finished in the top 5.)
The Happy
Raccoon Show
This
was the second play I ever wrote. (The first had been an exercise for a
quarter-long drama class.) I never thought it was very good, but
criticism had been promised for all entries, so I entered it in early
2003 and had it back by May. It won the Playwright's Theatre of New
Jersey's Young Playwrights Contest in the Junior High Division.
Roundelay For Spring
My
most recent play, I received a Governor's Award for Arts Education for
it in 2004, again from the Playwright's Theatre of New Jersey, this
time it won in the High School Division.
