Become a Literacy Volunteer!

Make a difference in someone’s life...join the Jefferson County Combined Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) literacy volunteer service. The program trains volunteer tutors to help adult learners improve reading, writing, and spelling skills. There are a few requirements.

You must:

Be at least 18 years old.

Read and speak English proficiently.

Complete a basic tutor workshop.

Have 2 to 4 hours per week to devote to the program.

Tutors and students meet once or twice a week at a place and time convenient for both. The tutoring may take place in any public location such as a library branch, a senior center, or a church, etc.
