Bylaws
1. Duties of the officers
a. President: The president is to act as the head of the club. (S)he shall organize meetings, oversee the duties of the other officers, head club meetings, and chair the county meet that takes place at DeLand High. The president shall assist the sponsor, and together with the sponsor make executive decisions about the club.
b. Vice-President: The vice-president shall help the president organize and head meetings, co-chair the meets hosted at Deland High School, and attend to responsibilities delegated by the president.
c. Secretary: The secretary shall take minutes of the meeting, organize any paperwork, and provide information to club members who miss club meeting.
d. Treasurer: The treasurers shall collect dues, oversee fundraisers, and keep track of the clubs monetary situation.
e. Publicist: There shall be one or two publicists who shall promote the club and get announcements out to club members. If necessary, the publicist shall enforce the importance of coming to meetings or other policies.
f. Historian: The historian shall keep records of all club activities through photographs, archives, or any other means.
2. Duties of the members
a. Members shall:
I. Attend a minimum of three county meets and shall attend the meet hosted by Deland MUN unless excused by the president and sponsor.
II. Attend all club meetings unless excused by the sponsor or president.
III. Participate in fundraisers and other club events unless excused by the sponsor or president.
3. Expectations of members
a. Members are expected to:
I. Participate at county and state meets to the best of their ability- utilize caucuses, exchange ideas, present speeches, etc.
II. Dress appropriately for conferences (Western business attire).
III. Behave as representatives of DeLand High School.
4. Election Process
a. Elections shall be conducted at the end of each school year, after the commencement of all Model UN activities, to elect officers for the following school year.
b. The president shall conduct proceedings until a new president is elected.
c. Officers shall be elected in the following order: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicist, Historian.
d. All members running shall present speeches unless they are running unopposed, in which case they have the option of speaking or not.
e. The election meeting shall be an open meeting.
f. Requirements for officers:
President: The president shall have been in Model UN for a minimum of a year and shall have been to at least one state conference. If no members fit these criteria, the qualification of having attended one state conference can be dropped.
Vice-President: The vice-president shall have been in Model UN for a minimum of a year.
Treasurer, Secretary, and Publicist: These officers are not required to have been in the club previously but it is recommended that they have some experience in the club. It shall be noted during elections which candidates have MUN experience.
5. Dues and Obligations.
a. Dues are $10 and must be paid by each member at the beginning of the year. Members who fail to pay their dues are no longer eligible for club membership.
b. When members sign up to represent a country at county meets, they are promising to attend the meet. If they do not attend, they will be fined five dollars. If the five dollars is not paid by the next meet, it will become an obligation.
